What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: holy basil, supplied as 500 mg powder per serving. There are no other ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for holy basil isn't established yet in our data. We hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for generalized anxiety disorder, asthma, headache, respiratory tract infections, dental plaque, or diabetes.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means the clinical trials so far haven't been robust enough to call it proven.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Holy basil is generally well tolerated in the short term, but long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects reported in trials were loose stools and nausea—a small number of trial participants experienced these.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding, so if you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist before adding this if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, diabetes medications, or pentobarbital. Holy basil may increase bleeding risk, lower blood sugar further, or boost sedative effects, and the human evidence is limited.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Holy basil might appeal to you if you're looking for a traditional adaptogenic herb, but the evidence for its effectiveness isn't solid yet. If you take blood thinners, diabetes drugs, or sedatives, you need to check with your pharmacist first.
Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid it.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Holy Basil Powder 500 mg by BulkSupplements.com does interact with several types of medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs—holy basil seed oil may theoretically increase bleeding risk by slowing how long it takes blood to clot, though this finding comes from animal studies and hasn't been confirmed in people.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
It also interacts with diabetes medications. Holy basil can lower blood sugar, and small clinical trials show it does decrease fasting glucose levels.
Combined with diabetes drugs, this raises the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Additionally, holy basil seed oil may increase the sedative effects of pentobarbital (a barbiturate sedative), though again the evidence is from animal research and human effects remain unclear.
Altogether, these interactions span 211 individual medications. Before you start this product, check your exact prescriptions with the search tool on this page—especially if you take blood thinners, diabetes medications, or any sedatives.
