Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains two active ingredients: Maca root extract and Horny Goat Weed Extract. The capsule shell itself is made from vegetable cellulose, which is an inactive ingredient.

Both actives have a long history in herbal medicine, though modern research on them as supplements is still developing.

Does it work?

Insufficient evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Insufficient

There isn't enough reliable clinical evidence to rate this product's ingredients for its stated purpose.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: sexual vitality and energy boost.
  • We looked for evidence on: Erectile dysfunction (ED), Sexual desire, Sexual dysfunction, Fatigue, Age-related testosterone deficiency, Antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction — and 3 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Maca is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Antidepressant-induced sexual dysfunction (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Maca is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Fatigue, Sexual desire, Age-related testosterone deficiency.
  • Also on file: Horny Goat Weed is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Sexual dysfunction, Erectile dysfunction (ED).

The evidence for what these ingredients actually do isn't established in our data. Horny Goat Weed Extract has been studied for sexual dysfunction, bronchitis, heart health, and bone health, but the data rates all of these as having insufficient reliable evidence.

Maca root extract shows the same picture across several uses—amenorrhea, anemia, sexual dysfunction from antidepressants, athletic performance, and bone health—all rated as insufficient evidence. That doesn't mean they don't work; it means we don't have enough solid clinical trials yet to say either way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 2 of the 2 matched ingredients.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 2 of 2.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 2 of 2.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Horny Goat Weed is generally well tolerated when used short-term, though human safety data is limited and quality varies between products. The most common side effects are dizziness, dry mouth, nosebleed, thirst, and vomiting.

One rare serious case of irregular heartbeat was reported in a 66-year-old with heart disease after two weeks of use, but it's unclear whether the product contained only horny goat weed or other ingredients too. Maca root is generally well tolerated as a food, though supplement safety hasn't been studied long-term; if it's fresh and uncooked, it may cause stomach pain.

During pregnancy, horny goat weed is rated possibly unsafe and should be avoided. Maca should also be avoided in pregnancy because there isn't enough safety data.

For breastfeeding, there isn't enough reliable information for either ingredient, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you're nursing.

This product is for anyone curious about traditional herbal support for sexual function and general wellness, but it's not proven to work for any condition in solid clinical trials.
