HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Huai Hua Mi by Hawaii Pharm
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Huai Hua Mi contains one active ingredient: sophora japonica bud and flower extract, derived from the pagoda tree. This extract has been used in traditional medicine, though modern human safety data are limited.
The liquid form also contains alcohol, water, and glycerin as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold rates pagoda tree flower for hemorrhoids and menopausal symptoms as insufficient—meaning the studies aren't solid enough to say whether it works. We can't tell you it will or won't help with either condition based on the data available.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pagoda tree flower itself is generally well tolerated when taken orally, and no adverse effects have been reported in the traditional use we have data on. However, a thorough safety evaluation hasn't been done.
The safety data advise against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding because there isn't enough information to know it's safe in those states. One important note: long-term use of pagoda tree seed (a different part of the plant than what's in this product) is possibly unsafe and has been associated with serious effects like swelling and, rarely, death.
This product uses the flower and bud, not the seed, but caution is warranted given the limited human safety data overall.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take caffeine-containing medications or consume caffeine regularly through coffee, tea, or energy drinks, check with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting this product. The extract may slow how fast your body clears caffeine, potentially intensifying its effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Huai Hua Mi may be worth considering if you're interested in traditional pagoda tree use, but the evidence for hemorrhoids or menopausal symptoms isn't established. The main caution is its interaction with caffeine—if you drink coffee or take caffeine-containing medications, talk with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Also avoid it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and discuss it with your healthcare provider if you have ongoing health concerns or take regular medications.

Huai Hua Mi by Hawaii Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Huai Hua Mi by Hawaii Pharm contains pagoda tree flower extract, which interacts with caffeine.
The extract may slow your body's clearance of caffeine, meaning caffeine can build up in your system and stay longer than usual. This happens because pagoda tree contains a compound called genistein that can inhibit the enzyme responsible for breaking down caffeine in your liver.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity

Sophora japonica Bud, Flower Extract, Dry
Caffeine
Theoretically, pagoda tree might reduce the clearance of caffeine.
Pagoda tree contains genistein. Taking genistein 1 gram daily for 14 days seems to inhibit caffeine clearance and metabolism in healthy females. This effect has been attributed to inhibition of the cytochrome P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) enzyme, which is involved in caffeine metabolism. It is unclear if this effect occurs with the lower amounts of genistein found in pagoda tree.
