Inositol Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Inositol against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Inositol by Douglas Laboratories
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: inositol, a naturally occurring compound that plays a role in cell signaling and metabolism. The capsule itself is made from gelatin with microcrystalline cellulose and vegetable stearate as inactive ingredients (binders and flow agents).
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Inositol is possibly effective for polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and metabolic syndrome based on available evidence. It's also possibly effective for preventing preterm labor, though again the evidence is considered preliminary.
For anxiety, diabetic nerve pain, and depression, the evidence suggests it's not effective — so if you're considering it for those reasons, it's not the right fit.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Inositol is generally well tolerated at typical doses. The most common side effects from taking it by mouth are diarrhea, gas, and nausea — usually mild and digestive in nature.
One case report linked an energy drink containing inositol and other ingredients (like caffeine) to mania in someone with bipolar disorder, but it's unclear whether inositol itself was responsible or a combination of the ingredients. Safety data in pregnancy is incomplete; inositol has been studied in pregnant people, but only use it in pregnancy under medical supervision.
There isn't enough reliable information for other situations, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any health conditions.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take diabetes medications (prescription or over-the-counter), double-check with your pharmacist before adding this product — there's a Moderate interaction risk with low blood sugar. Use the medication checker below to confirm your specific drugs.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Inositol may help with PCOS and metabolic syndrome. If you take diabetes medications, check with your pharmacist or doctor first — there's a Moderate interaction risk with blood sugar.
It's generally well tolerated but can cause mild digestive upset. Talk to your pharmacist about whether it's right for your specific situation.

Inositol by Douglas Laboratories has one documented interaction type: it may increase your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you take antidiabetes drugs.
That's a Moderate concern. Inositol lowers blood glucose and HbA1c levels in people with diabetes, so combining it with diabetes medications could push your blood sugar too low — something you'd want to watch for and discuss with your prescriber beforehand.
