Kid's Aller-Calm contains seven active ingredients in a liquid form. Fresh Yerba Santa, fresh Osha, Eyebright, Nettle, Ambrosia, fresh Lobelia, and Oregon Grape are combined in a proprietary blend.
The product also contains vegetable glycerin and deionized water as inactive ingredients (excipients that help deliver the herbs).
Does it work?
Insufficient evidence
The evidence for most of these ingredients falls short. Nettle is rated possibly effective for diabetes, but the rest — Yerba Santa for obesity, Osha for indigestion and HIV/AIDS, Eyebright for hay fever and cough, and Lobelia for smoking cessation — lack sufficient reliable evidence.
Oregon Grape is rated possibly effective for psoriasis. Because this product is marketed for allergy support and most ingredients lack solid proof for that use, the data we hold do not establish that it works for its intended purpose.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Nettle is generally well tolerated when used as directed, though constipation and diarrhea have been reported. Eyebright may cause confusion, headache, nausea, constipation, cough, and shortness of breath.
Lobelia carries a caution: it can be toxic and cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, tremors, and throat irritation at even low doses, and severe toxicity (sweating, rapid heart rate, convulsions, low blood pressure, coma, or death) at higher doses. Oregon Grape may cause itching, burning, or skin irritation.
Yerba Santa and Osha have limited safety data in medicinal amounts. No adverse effects are reported in the data we hold for Ambrosia.

Oregon Grape
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro and in vivo research suggests that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can inhibit platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research suggests that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can lower blood glucose levels.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can have hypotensive effects. Also, an analysis of clinical evidence suggests that taking berberine in combination with amlodipine (Norvasc) can lower systolic and diastolic blood pressure when compared with taking amlodipine alone.
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase the sedative effects of CNS depressants.
Animal research suggests that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can have sedative effects.
Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune)
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase the effects and adverse effects of cyclosporine.
Berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can reduce metabolism of cyclosporine and increase serum levels. It might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), which metabolizes cyclosporine.
Cytochrome P450 2C9 (Cyp2C9) Substrates
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.
Preliminary clinical evidence suggests that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can inhibit cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9).
Cytochrome P450 2D6 (Cyp2D6) Substrates
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, can inhibit cytochrome P450 2D6 (CYP2D6).
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase serum levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research and preliminary clinical evidence suggest that berberine, a constituent of Oregon grape, moderately inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4).
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, Oregon grape might increase serum levels of drugs that are P-glycoprotein (P-gp) substrates.
In vitro research suggests that Oregon grape extracts inhibit P-gp efflux.
Nettle
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, stinging nettle might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that stinging nettle might decrease blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes.
Diuretic Drugs
Theoretically, combining stinging nettle with diuretic drugs may have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that the above ground parts and roots of stinging nettle may have a diuretic effect.
Lithium
Theoretically, stinging nettle might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that stinging nettle has diuretic and natriuretic properties, which could alter the excretion of lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
There is some concern that stinging nettle might decrease the effects of anticoagulant drugs such as warfarin.
Stinging nettle contains a significant amount of vitamin K. When taken in large quantities, this might interfere with the activity of warfarin.
Eyebright
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, eyebright might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that eyebright lowers blood glucose levels.
fresh Yerba Santa
Lithium
Yerba santa is thought to have diuretic properties. Theoretically, due to these potential diuretic effects, yerba santa might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.

Lithium
Lobelia is thought to have diuretic properties. Theoretically, due to these potential diuretic effects, lobelia might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium. The dose of lithium might need to be decreased.
