What’s inside
Full disclosure
L-Carnitine 3000 contains one active ingredient: L-carnitine, a compound your body uses to transport fatty acids into cells where they're burned for energy. The liquid formula also includes inactive ingredients — purified water, citric acid, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, natural and artificial flavors, and sucralose — that serve as the base, preservatives, and sweeteners.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
L-carnitine is effective for treating L-carnitine deficiency, a condition where your body doesn't have enough of this compound. It's rated possibly effective for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), congestive heart failure, and angina (chest pain from reduced blood flow to the heart), meaning the evidence suggests it may help but isn't definitive.
The data on file doesn't establish effectiveness for other uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-carnitine is generally well tolerated at typical doses. The most common side effects are digestive — stomach cramps, pain, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea, and reduced appetite — along with a fishy body odor that some people report.
Seizures are rare but documented. High doses are more likely to cause stomach upset.
Safety data during breastfeeding is limited, so caution is advised if you're nursing. Pregnancy safety information isn't on file for this ingredient.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before taking this product if you're on warfarin (Coumadin) or acenocoumarol (Sintrom) — L-carnitine may increase their blood-thinning effects (moderate severity). Also check if you take thyroid hormone replacement, as L-carnitine might reduce how well it works (moderate severity).
Use the medication checker on this page to confirm your exact drugs, then talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-carnitine may make sense if you have a documented deficiency or want to explore it for heart health or cholesterol under medical guidance. If you take blood thinners like warfarin or acenocoumarol, or take thyroid hormone replacement, you need to check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement — it could change how those medications work.
Digestive side effects and body odor are possible, especially at higher doses.

L-Carnitine 3000 Tropical Pineapple by 1 Up Nutrition Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Carnitine 3000 by 1 Up Nutrition does interact with medications, specifically through its L-carnitine content affecting blood thinners and thyroid hormone replacement.
The most serious documented concern is a moderate interaction with acenocoumarol (Sintrom), an oral blood thinner — L-carnitine appears to strengthen its blood-thinning effects, and there are at least two case reports of elevated INR (a measure of how thin your blood is) when both were used together.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Warfarin (Coumadin), another blood thinner, also has a documented moderate interaction with L-carnitine; the supplement may theoretically increase its anticoagulant effect. Additionally, L-carnitine may reduce how well thyroid hormone replacement works by blocking the hormone from entering cells properly — this is also rated moderate severity.
Altogether, these interactions span 19 individual medications. If you take a blood thinner or thyroid medication, run the exact drug names through the checker on this page before starting L-carnitine, and talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist.

For each ingredient in L-Carnitine 3000 Tropical Pineapple with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
L-Carnitine
Acenocoumarol (Sintrom)
Theoretically, L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol.
L-carnitine might enhance the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, an oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin, but shorter-acting. There are at least two case reports of INR elevation with concomitant use. In one case, a 33-year-old male with a previously stable INR had an elevated INR of 4.65 after L-carnitine was started and continued for 10 weeks. INR normalized after discontinuation of the L-carnitine-containing product.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, L-carnitine might decrease the effectiveness of thyroid hormone replacement.
L-carnitine appears to act as a peripheral thyroid hormone antagonist by inhibiting entry of thyroid hormone into the nucleus of cells. Taking L-carnitine also seems to diminish some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, a shorter-acting oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin. There is not enough information to know whether this interaction occurs with L-carnitine and warfarin.
