HelloPharmacist Scorecard of L-Tyrosine 500 mg by Pure Nootropics
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This supplement contains one active ingredient: L-tyrosine, an amino acid your body uses to make neurotransmitters (brain chemicals) and thyroid hormones. The capsule also contains hypromellose, an inert filler that holds it together.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L-Tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a genetic condition. For cognitive function and memory, the evidence suggests it's possibly effective — meaning it shows promise, but research isn't conclusive yet.
For athletic performance, current evidence suggests it probably doesn't help. We don't have enough reliable data to rate it for alcohol use disorder or dementia.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-Tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, though a full safety evaluation hasn't been completed. Common side effects at typical doses are fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea.
Higher doses (particularly 150 mg/kg or more) can trigger headache and fatigue; combining it with other supplements like 5-hydroxytryptophan and carbidopa may cause drowsiness, agitation, diarrhea, or vomiting — lowering the dose usually helps. We don't have enough data on safety during pregnancy, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, double-check if you take levodopa for Parkinson's disease (tyrosine may weaken its effect) or thyroid hormone medications (tyrosine may amplify them). Space levodopa doses at least two hours away from this supplement.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
L-Tyrosine may help with cognitive function and memory, though the evidence isn't rock-solid. If you take levodopa (for Parkinson's) or thyroid hormones, check with your pharmacist first — tyrosine can interact with both.
Otherwise, it's generally well tolerated, but chat with your healthcare provider before making it a regular habit.

L-Tyrosine 500 mg by Pure Nootropics Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
L-Tyrosine 500 mg by Pure Nootropics has documented interactions with two medication types.
The most serious is levodopa (used for Parkinson's disease), where tyrosine may reduce how well the drug works. Both compete for absorption in your intestines, so we recommend spacing doses at least two hours apart.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Tyroid hormone medications are also a concern. Tyrosine is a building block your body uses to make thyroid hormones, so taking it alongside thyroid meds might amplify their effects.
If you're on thyroid replacement therapy, your doctor may need to monitor your levels more closely.
Altogether, these interactions span 21 individual medications. Use the medication checker below to verify your exact prescriptions before starting this supplement.

L-Tyrosine
Levodopa
Theoretically, tyrosine might decrease the effectiveness of levodopa.
Tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in the proximal duodenum by the large neutral amino acid (LNAA) transport system. Advise patients to separate doses of tyrosine and levodopa by at least 2 hours.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, tyrosine might have additive effects with thyroid hormone medications.
Tyrosine is a precursor to thyroxine and might increase levels of thyroid hormones.
