Agmatine appears generally well tolerated when used short-term in recommended amounts. Long-term safety in humans has not been well studied, so caution is warranted with extended use.
The most common side effects reported in small trials are diarrhea, indigestion (dyspepsia), and nausea — these typically appeared within a few days and resolved when people stopped taking it. Safety data is insufficient for pregnancy and breastfeeding, so the evidence advises against use during both.
