Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 2 active ingredients. Citicoline (branded as Cognizin) is a compound your brain naturally produces; it plays a role in cell membrane health and nerve signaling.
Stevia leaf extract is a natural sweetener derived from stevia plant leaves. The rest of the formula—glycerin, water, oils, lecithin, and other compounds—are inactive ingredients that make the liquid drinkable and stable.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Citicoline has the strongest evidence for age-related cognitive decline and glaucoma, where it's rated possibly effective. Evidence for Alzheimer disease, traumatic brain injury, and cardiac arrest is insufficient to rate.
For stroke, preliminary research suggests it may be ineffective. Stevia's effectiveness for diabetes, high blood pressure, and weight management is not well established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Citicoline is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety isn't fully established. Common side effects from oral citicoline include abdominal pain, back pain, blurred vision, constipation, diarrhea, headache, insomnia, and nausea.
Stevia leaf extract at supplement doses lacks good safety data, so caution is warranted—though purified stevia at food amounts is generally recognized as safe. Minor stevia side effects like bloating, dizziness, headache, muscle pain, nausea, and numbness tend to resolve within the first week.
Allergic reactions are rare but possible. Neither citicoline nor stevia has sufficient pregnancy or breastfeeding safety data; talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, trying to conceive, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this, double-check if you're on lithium—stevia may raise its level (Moderate concern). Also flag any blood pressure medications or diabetes drugs with your pharmacist, since stevia could slightly boost their effects (Minor concerns).
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

For each ingredient in Liposomal Citicoline with Cognizin with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Stevia leaf extract
Lithium
Theoretically, stevia might decrease clearance and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that stevia extracts might have diuretic activity. Theoretically, increased reabsorption of lithium along with sodium might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, stevia might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when combined with antidiabetes drugs.
Preliminary clinical research in patients with type 2 diabetes suggests that taking a single dose of stevia extract 1000 mg reduces postprandial blood glucose levels when taken with a meal. However, other clinical research in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes suggests that taking stevioside 250 mg three times daily does not significantly affect blood glucose levels or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) after three months of treatment.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining stevia or stevia constituents with antihypertensive agents might increase the risk of hypotension.
Stevia extract and stevioside might lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension. However, other clinical research suggests that stevioside does not significantly lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
