Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
This product contains 3 active ingredients. Sodium is included as an electrolyte; whey protein isolate is a concentrated dairy protein; and the label lists a protein blend and hydrolyzed collagen protein as additional protein sources.
The remaining ingredients are inactive — water, acids, flavoring, sweeteners, and colorants that make up the liquid formula.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The sodium and whey protein in this product have been studied for different purposes, but the evidence is mixed. Whey protein is possibly effective for athletic performance but possibly ineffective for osteoporosis and COPD.
Sodium has been rated likely effective for cystic fibrosis and possibly effective for amphotericin B kidney damage, though for other conditions like heart failure and bipolar disorder the evidence is too weak to rate. This product is a supplement blend, not a treatment for any disease.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Whey protein is generally well tolerated by healthy adults when used as directed. Common side effects — dose-related and usually mild — include bloating, cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and acne.
Sodium is safe in normal food amounts, but supplemental sodium or very high intake is a concern: excess sodium is linked to high blood pressure, heart strain, and kidney problems. The safety data for this product's concentrated form in healthy people is limited, so talk with your doctor before starting if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, or kidney issues.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding safety data for whey protein on file is incomplete; sodium in pregnancy is rated possibly unsafe. Check with your pharmacist or doctor about your individual situation.
Meds to double-check
Major interaction found
Check with your pharmacist before using this product if you take levodopa (Parkinson's medication) — that's a Major interaction. For Moderate interactions, flag it if you take blood pressure medications, lithium, corticosteroids, HIV medications like didanosine, antibiotics (quinolone or tetracycline types), or bisphosphonates for bone health.
Spacing doses a few hours apart can help with some of these.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Major medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a protein supplement for people looking to add amino acids to their diet, especially around workouts. If you take any blood pressure medication, lithium, antibiotics, bone medications, HIV drugs, or corticosteroids, you'll need to check this with your pharmacist first — the sodium and protein can interfere.
Also mention it if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, or kidney problems.

Liquid Super Protein Aminos Grape by Dymatize Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Dymatize Liquid Super Protein Aminos Grape contains sodium and whey protein isolate, both of which interact with medications.
The most serious interaction is whey protein with levodopa (a Parkinson's medication): protein can reduce how well your body absorbs it and may worsen tremor and stiffness in people taking it.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Sodium in this product can interfere with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), lithium for bipolar disorder, and corticosteroids — all Moderate severity. High sodium intake may reduce how well blood pressure drugs work, can shift lithium levels dangerously, and combined with corticosteroids raises the risk of high sodium levels in your blood (hypernatremia).
It also interacts with didanosine (an HIV medication), sodium phosphate (a bowel prep), tolvaptan (for low sodium levels), and other sodium-containing drugs — same Moderate concern.
Whey protein can also reduce absorption of quinolone and tetracycline antibiotics and bisphosphonate bone medications — all Moderate. The minerals in whey bind these drugs in your gut; spacing them out by a few hours helps.
We could not check hydrolyzed collagen protein for interactions.
Altogether, these interactions span 256 individual medications. Run your exact prescriptions through the checker below before starting this product.

For each ingredient in Liquid Super Protein Aminos Grape with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
