Longest Living Acidophilus Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Longest Living Acidophilus against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Longest Living Acidophilus by Futurebiotics
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Longest Living Acidophilus contains 4 active ingredients, all probiotics — beneficial bacteria meant to support your digestive health. You get Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, Bacillus coagulans (sold as LactoSpore), and Lactobacillus rhamnosus.
The capsules also contain inactive ingredients including microcrystalline cellulose (a binder), modified cellulose, cranberry fruit extract, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Evidence for these probiotics varies. Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis.
Bacillus coagulans is possibly effective for constipation and IBS. Bifidobacterium longum shows insufficient reliable evidence for the conditions we checked.
For several other uses, the data are too limited to rate — including whether B. longum helps with anxiety, asthma, hay fever, or cognitive decline. If you're looking at this product for a specific condition, your pharmacist can walk you through what the research actually shows.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
These probiotics are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Since they contain live organisms, there's a small theoretical risk of infection in people who are critically ill, severely immunocompromised, or have central venous catheters — but healthy people have not shown widespread pathogenic problems.
Uncommon gastrointestinal side effects can include abdominal discomfort, bloating, flatulence, diarrhea, or constipation. In one clinical trial, a couple of cases of rash were reported, though it's unclear whether they were due to the probiotics or something else.
Bifidobacterium longum is rated possibly safe in pregnancy and lactation, but safety data are limited overall — talk to your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Antibiotic drugs are the main class to double-check (Moderate severity across all three active ingredients). Separating your antibiotic dose from this supplement by several hours should minimize the problem.
No other medication interactions are documented in our data for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product makes sense if you're managing IBS, constipation, or antibiotic-related diarrhea and want to try probiotics. If you're taking antibiotics, time this supplement at least a few hours apart from your doses so the antibiotics don't kill the beneficial bacteria.
Check your medications with the tool below first, and talk to your pharmacist or doctor if you're seriously ill, immunocompromised, pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Formula
Futurebiotics longest living acidophilus includes potent lactospore. Delivering viable live probiotics to the intestinal tract is a formidable technical challenge. Lactospore is a naturally microencapsulated sporiferous preparation of Bacillus coagulans that is proven to deliver viable lactobacilli to the intestine. It is room-temperature stable and highly resistant to the action of heat, gastric acids and bile. In addition, Lactobacillus acidophilus and rhamnosus along with Bifidobacterium longum are included, which together with Lactospore provides over 1 billion organisms per capsule and supports healthy intestinal flora balance.

Longest Living Acidophilus by Futurebiotics Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Longest Living Acidophilus by Futurebiotics contains three probiotic ingredients with documented interactions: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium longum, and Bacillus coagulans (LactoSpore).
All three interact with antibiotic drugs at Moderate severity. Since these probiotics are live organisms, taking antibiotics at the same time can kill a significant number of them and reduce their effectiveness.
You'll want to space out your antibiotics and this supplement — your pharmacist or doctor can help you time them properly.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
