What’s inside
Full disclosure
This softgel contains 2 active ingredients: zeaxanthin and lutein, both carotenoids (plant pigments). The capsule also includes gelatin, safflower oil, glycerin, carob extract, purified water, and yellow beeswax as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Zeaxanthin is possibly effective for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of vision loss in older adults. For age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer disease, asthma, breast cancer, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, the evidence isn't established in the data we hold.
Lutein is possibly effective for both AMD and cataracts. For other eye and lung conditions in the data, evidence suggests it's likely ineffective.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both zeaxanthin and lutein are generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. Doses of lutein up to 20 mg daily have not resulted in reported adverse effects.
For pregnancy and breastfeeding, the safety data rates both as likely safe — but because concentrated supplement safety hasn't been well studied in these situations, talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice before use if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antidiabetes drugs (blood sugar medications), double-check this product before starting it — zeaxanthin may theoretically increase low blood sugar risk.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may be worth considering if you're concerned about age-related vision loss, especially AMD. If you take any blood sugar medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the zeaxanthin here might theoretically raise your low blood sugar risk.
Generally, it's well tolerated, but run your exact medications through the checker below before you start.

Theoretically, taking zeaxanthin with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
