This softgel contains 2 active ingredients: zeaxanthin and lutein, both carotenoid compounds that your eyes naturally accumulate. The product also includes safflower oil, gelatin, vegetable glycerin, yellow beeswax, and purified water as inactive ingredients to form and stabilize the capsule.

Moderate evidence
Zeaxanthin and lutein have the strongest evidence for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), where both are rated Possibly Effective. Lutein also carries a Possibly Effective rating for cataracts.
Beyond those two conditions, the evidence in our data is insufficient to establish how well either ingredient works for age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, asthma, or breast cancer. For retinitis pigmentosa, retinopathy of prematurity, and bronchopulmonary dysplasia, lutein is rated Possibly Ineffective.

Both zeaxanthin and lutein are generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. Lutein studies have shown no adverse effects at daily doses up to 20 mg.

Theoretically, taking zeaxanthin with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In an animal diabetic model, zeaxanthin has hypoglycemic effects. However, population research has found that increasing intake of dietary zeaxanthin plus lutein does not decrease the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
