What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: mangosteen extract at 400 mg per capsule. Mangosteen is a tropical fruit whose extract has been studied for its potential anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
The capsule itself is made from hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (a plant-based coating), microcrystalline cellulose (a binder), and vegetable magnesium stearate (a flow agent).
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence we hold shows mangosteen extract is possibly effective for periodontitis (gum inflammation and infection). For male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) and Alzheimer disease, the evidence isn't established — we don't have enough reliable data to rate it.
For eczema (atopic dermatitis), the same applies.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Mangosteen extract is generally well tolerated as a food, but long-term safety of concentrated supplements isn't well studied. In trials at doses up to 560 mg daily, some participants reported mild tiredness, headache, dizziness, and malaise; others reported digestive effects like constipation, nausea, diarrhea, and bloating; and a few reported dry throat, cough, and nasal congestion.
It's unclear whether these were caused by mangosteen itself. The safety data advises against taking mangosteen in supplement amounts during pregnancy or while breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know it's safe in those situations.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your doctor or pharmacist before using this product if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, clopidogrel, or aspirin) — mangosteen may raise your bleeding risk. Also flag it if you take donepezil for Alzheimer disease, as mangosteen might increase its effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Mangosteen extract may help with gum disease, but the evidence is limited. If you take blood thinners, antiplatelet drugs, or donepezil, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interactions could affect your safety or how well your medication works.
Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding until you've talked that through with your own healthcare provider.

Mangosteen extract
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs may increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro and animal research shows that gamma-mangostin, a constituent of mangosteen, is a potent and competitive antagonist of the serotonin 2A (5-HT2A) receptor. Antagonism of the 5-HT2A receptor is believed to reduce platelet aggregation.
Donepezil (Aricept)
Theoretically, concomitant use of mangosteen with donepezil might increase the effects of donepezil.
Animal research shows that concomitant use of an aqueous extract of mangosteen pericarp with donepezil increases brain concentrations of donepezil at 4 hours by 64% without associated effects on systemic exposure.
