Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: marshmallow root (from the marshmallow plant). Marshmallow root contains mucilage, a naturally occurring compound that's responsible for many of its traditional uses.
The capsule itself is made from gelatin, an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for marshmallow root isn't established in the data we hold. Effectiveness ratings we have on file for vaginal yeast infections, diarrhea, leg ulcers, eczema, and respiratory tract infections all show insufficient reliable evidence to rate the ingredient.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means rigorous human studies backing these uses aren't available to us.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Marshmallow root is generally well tolerated for short-term use, but human safety data are limited. We don't have a adverse effects list from clinical trials on file.
During pregnancy, there isn't enough reliable safety information, so the data advises against use. The same applies to breastfeeding—there's insufficient information to know whether it's safe, so it's best avoided until you can discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check if you use lithium—marshmallow may increase its levels in your body. Also mention any blood thinners or antiplatelet medications you're on.
Since marshmallow can affect how your body absorbs other oral drugs, space it 30–60 minutes away from your other medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
Marshmallow Root is a single-ingredient supplement that may help with certain throat or digestive discomforts, though the evidence isn't strong in the data we hold. If you take lithium or blood thinners, you'll want to check with your pharmacist first.
It's best avoided in pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

Marshmallow Root by Earthborn Elements Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Marshmallow Root by Earthborn Elements is a single-ingredient product that does interact with a couple of important medication types.
The main concern is lithium (used for mood disorders). Marshmallow is thought to have diuretic properties—meaning it may increase urine output—and theoretically this could reduce how your body clears lithium, letting it build up to unsafe levels.
If you take lithium, your dose may need to be adjusted when using this product.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
A secondary concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin or aspirin). Animal research suggests marshmallow flower has antiplatelet effects, though it's worth noting that supplements typically use the root and leaf, not the flower.
The interaction is rated Minor, but it's still something to flag.
Finally, because marshmallow contains a thick, gummy substance called mucilage, it may slow or interfere with how your body absorbs other oral medications. To reduce this risk, take marshmallow at least 30–60 minutes after any other pills.
Altogether, these interactions span 2,021 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up your specific prescriptions before starting.

Marshmallow
Lithium
Theoretically, due to potential diuretic effects, marshmallow might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Marshmallow is thought to have diuretic properties. To avoid lithium toxicity, the dose of lithium might need to be decreased when used with marshmallow.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, marshmallow flower might have antiplatelet effects.
Animal research suggests that marshmallow flower extract has antiplatelet effects. However, the root and leaf of marshmallow, not the flower, are the plant parts most commonly found in dietary supplements. Theoretically, use of marshmallow flower with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs can have additive effects, and might increase the risk for bleeding in some patients.
Oral Drugs
Theoretically, mucilage in marshmallow might impair absorption of oral drugs.
Marshmallow contains mucilage which can affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take marshmallow 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
