Meganephrine Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Meganephrine against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Meganephrine contains 4 active ingredients. The one we have full information on is L-tyrosine, an amino acid your body uses to make neurotransmitters and thyroid hormones.
The other three — ABgland Adrenal, ABgland Pituitary, and ABgland Hypothalamus — are glandular extracts. The product also contains inactive ingredients (gelatin capsule, microcrystalline cellulose, beef tissue, and other binders and anti-caking agents).
Does it work?
Strong evidence
L-tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a genetic disorder where the body can't process phenylalanine properly. It's possibly effective for boosting cognitive function and memory.
For athletic performance, the evidence suggests it's probably not effective. We don't have enough reliable evidence to rate it for alcohol use disorder or dementia.
The effectiveness of the glandular extracts in Meganephrine isn't established in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
L-tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but talk to your doctor before using it regularly. The most common side effects are fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea, especially at higher doses.
At very high doses (150 mg/kg), headache and fatigue can occur; combining it with other supplements or medications can cause drowsiness, agitation, diarrhea, or vomiting — these effects usually get better if you lower the dose. Pregnancy safety data is limited; there isn't enough information on safety while breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check with your pharmacist before taking Meganephrine if you're on levodopa (Moderate risk — separate doses by 2 hours) or thyroid hormones like levothyroxine (Moderate risk — your thyroid levels may shift). We could not check the other three ingredients for interactions with your medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Meganephrine is most suited to people looking for cognitive or memory support who don't take levodopa or thyroid medications. If you're on either of those, you need to check with your pharmacist first — the timing and dosing matter.
Talk to your doctor before starting regular use, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking other supplements.

Meganephrine by Cardiovascular Research Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Meganephrine by Cardiovascular Research contains L-tyrosine, which has documented interactions with certain medications.
The most serious concern is with levodopa (used for Parkinson's disease), a Moderate severity interaction: tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in your small intestine, which may reduce levodopa's effectiveness. If you take levodopa, separate your doses of tyrosine and this medication by at least 2 hours.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
L-tyrosine also has a Moderate interaction with thyroid hormone medications. Since tyrosine is a building block for thyroid hormones, it might increase your thyroid hormone levels if you're already taking thyroid medication.
Your doctor or pharmacist should monitor you if you're on thyroid replacement therapy.
The other three ingredients in this product — ABgland Adrenal, ABgland Pituitary, and ABgland Hypothalamus — we could not check for interactions; we hold no data on them. Altogether, these interactions span 21 individual medications.

L-Tyrosine
Levodopa
Theoretically, tyrosine might decrease the effectiveness of levodopa.
Tyrosine and levodopa compete for absorption in the proximal duodenum by the large neutral amino acid (LNAA) transport system. Advise patients to separate doses of tyrosine and levodopa by at least 2 hours.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, tyrosine might have additive effects with thyroid hormone medications.
Tyrosine is a precursor to thyroxine and might increase levels of thyroid hormones.
