Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 4 of its 4 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Meganephrine contains 4 active ingredients. The one we have full information on is L-tyrosine, an amino acid your body uses to make neurotransmitters and thyroid hormones.

The other three — ABgland Adrenal, ABgland Pituitary, and ABgland Hypothalamus — are glandular extracts. The product also contains inactive ingredients (gelatin capsule, microcrystalline cellulose, beef tissue, and other binders and anti-caking agents).

Strong evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed

This product doesn't appear to be marketed for a specific use, so we graded Tyrosine's overall clinical evidence instead.

Strong

Strong clinical evidence supports Tyrosine for:

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.
  • Since the label doesn't commit to one use, we graded the ingredient's overall clinical evidence instead.
  • On file: Phenylketonuria (PKU) — rated "Effective" (Natural Medicines).
  • On file: Cognitive function — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).
  • On file: Memory — rated "Possibly Effective" (Natural Medicines).

L-tyrosine is effective for phenylketonuria (PKU), a genetic disorder where the body can't process phenylalanine properly. It's possibly effective for boosting cognitive function and memory.

For athletic performance, the evidence suggests it's probably not effective. We don't have enough reliable evidence to rate it for alcohol use disorder or dementia.

The effectiveness of the glandular extracts in Meganephrine isn't established in our data.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

L-tyrosine is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but talk to your doctor before using it regularly. The most common side effects are fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea, especially at higher doses.

At very high doses (150 mg/kg), headache and fatigue can occur; combining it with other supplements or medications can cause drowsiness, agitation, diarrhea, or vomiting — these effects usually get better if you lower the dose. Pregnancy safety data is limited; there isn't enough information on safety while breastfeeding, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're pregnant or nursing.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Tyrosine.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: Parkinson's medications.
  • For scale: 21 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your pharmacist before taking Meganephrine if you're on levodopa (Moderate risk — separate doses by 2 hours) or thyroid hormones like levothyroxine (Moderate risk — your thyroid levels may shift). We could not check the other three ingredients for interactions with your medications.

Meganephrine by Cardiovascular Research: Common Questions

Does Meganephrine by Cardiovascular Research interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Meganephrine has a known interaction with 21 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Meganephrine contains 4 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Does L-tyrosine really improve memory?
The evidence suggests it's possibly effective for memory and cognitive function, but it's not a guarantee. If you're looking to boost brain performance, talk to your pharmacist about what the data supports for your situation.
What are the most common side effects?
Fatigue, headache, heartburn, and nausea are the most common, especially at higher doses. Starting with a lower dose and taking the supplement with food can help. If these bother you, tell your pharmacist — you may need to adjust how much you're taking.
Can I take this if I'm on thyroid medication?
Not without talking to your pharmacist first. L-tyrosine can increase thyroid hormone levels, which might throw off your thyroid management. Your doctor may want to monitor your thyroid levels if you use this product.
Is it safe to take while I'm pregnant?
We don't have enough safety data to say either way. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking Meganephrine if you're pregnant — they can help you weigh the pros and cons for your situation.
What are the glandular extracts supposed to do?
The product includes extracts from adrenal, pituitary, and hypothalamus glands — organs that help regulate stress and hormones — but we don't have evidence data on their effectiveness in our records. Your pharmacist can tell you more about the brand's reasoning.
