What’s inside
Full disclosure
Methyl B12 Plus contains 2 active ingredients: vitamin B12 and L-5-MTHF (a form of folate). Vitamin B12 supports nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis — your body can't make it, so you need to get it from food or supplements.
L-5-MTHF is an active form of folate that your body can use right away. The lozenges also contain inactive ingredients like xylitol, mannitol, and natural flavors, along with binders and preservatives.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 in this product is effective for treating B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare absorption disorder). It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
For canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), the evidence suggests it may help, though the data isn't as strong. We don't have established effectiveness ratings for L-5-MTHF in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B12 is generally very well tolerated — your body simply removes excess through the urine, and there's no established upper limit. It's considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding at recommended amounts; follow your healthcare provider's guidance on your dose.
Serious side effects are rare. The most common adverse effects with B12 are mild injection-site reactions (if given as a shot), and allergic reactions like rash or itching are uncommon — they've been theoretically linked to the cobalt in B12, though they're uncommon.
In very rare cases, correcting severe B12 deficiency has been associated with low potassium levels; your doctor can monitor this if you're at risk.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage), a diabetes medication, confirm with your pharmacist that adding B12 supplementation won't interfere with how your medication works or your blood sugar management. No other interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This product is worth considering if you have a B12 deficiency, need extra folate, or are taking metformin long-term (which can deplete B12). If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any regular medications — especially diabetes drugs — check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting to make sure it's right for your situation.
