What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12 in the form of methylcobalamin. B12 is a water-soluble vitamin that your body uses to make red blood cells, support nerve function, and maintain energy.
Because the body stores it and excess is removed in the urine, it's very hard to overdose on. The tablet also contains inactive ingredients—mannitol, natural cherry flavors, stearic acid, vegetable cellulose, vegetable magnesium stearate, silica, stevia, and citric acid—that help form and flavor the tablet.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating B12 deficiency and Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare condition that impairs B12 absorption). It's also likely effective for treating cyanide poisoning.
For canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), the evidence suggests it may help, though the data is less conclusive.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Vitamin B12 is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. It's so safe that there's no established upper limit—your body removes any excess through urine.
Most people have no problems at all. In rare cases, allergic reactions like rash or itching have been reported, and there's a theoretical risk in people with cobalt allergy since cobalt is part of the B12 molecule.
B12 is considered safe and needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding at normal recommended amounts; follow your provider's guidance for your individual needs.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) or a related diabetes medication, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting—metformin can lower B12 levels, and this supplement may help correct that, but they'll want to oversee it. No other documented interactions came up in our data for the B12 in this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This B12 supplement is straightforward and well tolerated for most people, especially if you have a deficiency or can't absorb B12 well from food. If you take metformin for diabetes, let your doctor or pharmacist know you're starting this—they may want to keep an eye on your B12 levels.
