Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B-12 in the methyl form (methylcobalamin), supplied at 5,000 micrograms per tablet. The remaining ingredients are inactive — mannitol, natural cherry flavors, vegetable stearic acid, vegetable cellulose, vegetable magnesium stearate, silica, stevia, and citric acid — which help form and flavor the tablet.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B-12 is effective for treating Imerslund-Grasbeck disease and vitamin B12 deficiency. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
The evidence suggests it may be effective for canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain that can follow shingles), though the data for those two uses is less robust.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B-12 is generally very well tolerated when taken by mouth. Your body removes excess B-12 in your urine, so there's no established upper limit.
Allergic reactions are rare but possible — they can include rash, itching, redness, or hives; in one case, a person with a cobalt allergy developed a skin rash after taking oral methylcobalamin. B-12 is considered safe in pregnancy and while breastfeeding at recommended amounts, though you should follow your provider's guidance.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
The main medication to watch for is metformin (Glucophage), used for type 2 diabetes — it can lower your B-12 levels, which this supplement is meant to address, but timing and monitoring may matter. Run your full medication list through the checker on this page to be sure.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
This B-12 supplement is well-suited for people with B-12 deficiency or those at risk for it — especially if you take metformin long-term, since that drug can lower your levels. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, B-12 is important and safe at normal doses.
Before you start, check with your doctor or pharmacist about your complete medication list, particularly if you take metformin.
