HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Methyl Folate 1000 mcg by Superior Source
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 2 active ingredients: stevia leaf extract and folate (in the form of methyl folate, 1000 mcg per dose). Stevia is a plant-derived sweetener, while folate is a B vitamin your body uses for cell division and DNA synthesis.
The tablet also contains inactive ingredients — lactose, natural cherry flavor, and acacia — which serve as filler, flavor, and binder.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for stevia's effectiveness in lowering blood sugar, blood pressure, or weight is insufficient to establish whether it works for these purposes. Folate effectiveness ratings are not on file in our data, so we can't speak to its specific benefits here.
If you're considering this product for a particular health goal, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what the science actually supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Stevia is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. Minor side effects like abdominal bloating, dizziness, headache, muscle pain, nausea, and numbness may occur, but most resolve within the first week.
Allergic reactions are rare but possible. Because high-dose stevia supplements lack extensive safety data, use caution — purified stevia at food amounts is considered safer than whole-leaf or supplement doses.
We don't have pregnancy or breastfeeding safety information on file for either ingredient in this product, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding before starting.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check this product with your doctor or pharmacist if you take lithium — stevia may raise its levels (Moderate concern). Also check if you're on blood pressure medications or diabetes drugs, since stevia might intensify their effects (Minor concerns).
No interactions are documented for the folate in this product.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Methyl Folate 1000 mcg is generally well tolerated, but the stevia content means you should check it with your doctor or pharmacist if you take lithium, blood pressure medications, or diabetes drugs before starting. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or have questions about whether this is right for you, discuss it with your own healthcare provider.

For each ingredient in Methyl Folate 1000 mcg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Stevia leaf extract
Lithium
Theoretically, stevia might decrease clearance and increase levels of lithium.
Animal research suggests that stevia extracts might have diuretic activity. Theoretically, increased reabsorption of lithium along with sodium might reduce excretion and increase levels of lithium.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, stevia might increase the risk for hypoglycemia when combined with antidiabetes drugs.
Preliminary clinical research in patients with type 2 diabetes suggests that taking a single dose of stevia extract 1000 mg reduces postprandial blood glucose levels when taken with a meal. However, other clinical research in patients with type 1 or type 2 diabetes suggests that taking stevioside 250 mg three times daily does not significantly affect blood glucose levels or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1C) after three months of treatment.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, combining stevia or stevia constituents with antihypertensive agents might increase the risk of hypotension.
Stevia extract and stevioside might lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension. However, other clinical research suggests that stevioside does not significantly lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
