Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 2 active ingredients: Mexican yam extract and adrenal concentrate. Mexican yam extract is the documented active component we can assess; adrenal concentrate is included but we don't hold detailed data on it.
The capsule also contains several inactive ingredients — gelatin, vegetable cellulose, vegetable magnesium stearate, and silica — that serve as binders and capsule material.
Does it work?
Leans against
The evidence for Mexican yam extract is limited. For menopausal symptoms, it's rated possibly ineffective — the studies don't show it works well for hot flashes or other menopause-related changes.
For other uses listed — gallbladder disease, sexual dysfunction, period pain, and infertility — there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to rate whether it helps or not.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Orally, wild yam is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects are fever, headache, upset stomach, and vomiting, especially at higher doses.
A rare serious effect is anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction). Short-term use in healthy adults appears likely fine, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied.
Because there isn't enough safety data, the product should be avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning pregnancy, or nursing and wondering about this supplement.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take any estrogen medications — whether hormone replacement therapy, birth control pills, or estrogen for other reasons — check those medications with your pharmacist or doctor before adding this product. Wild yam extract can theoretically increase or decrease estrogen's effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Mexican Wild Yam Root might appeal to someone looking for a supplement for menopausal symptoms, though the evidence suggests it probably won't help much. If you take estrogen therapy or birth control pills, you need to check your exact medications before starting — wild yam could theoretically interfere with how your hormones work.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before you begin, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or take any prescription drugs.
