Motherwort appears to be generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, but human safety data are limited — we just don't have a lot of long-term studies. The most common side effects from oral use are diarrhea and stomach irritation.

If you take more than 3 grams, it can cause uterine bleeding. Topically, it may cause contact dermatitis or photosensitivity reactions (skin reactions triggered by sun exposure).
