What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • “Proprietary Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (0.50 mL) without saying how much of each component you get.

Cedar Bear's Mullein Leaf is a single-ingredient liquid formula: mullein in a proprietary blend. The liquid is made with USP-grade vegetable glycerine and purified water as inactive ingredients.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Mullein product and its label doesn't state a use — see Mullein's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for mullein isn't established in our data. We hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for bronchitis, asthma, migraine headache, cough, or diarrhea — uses it's sometimes promoted for, but studies haven't been solid enough to confirm whether it actually works for any of these.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Mullein is generally well tolerated for short-term use, though human safety data are limited. A small number of case reports describe dermatitis (a skin reaction) after direct contact with the whole plant or inhalation of plant dust — worth knowing if you handle it occupationally or apply it to skin.

The safety data advise against mullein during pregnancy and while breastfeeding because there isn't enough information to confirm it's safe in either situation. If you're pregnant, nursing, or planning to be, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it.

Meds to double-check

Minor interactions only
Known Interaction Concern · database check
Minor only

Only Minor-severity interactions are documented for these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Mullein.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Minor.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 122 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you take this, double-check any blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs you're on — mullein has mild blood-thinning effects and could add to their impact, raising bleeding risk.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.

Mullein is generally well tolerated for short-term use but has limited human safety data. The main concern is a Minor interaction with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs — if you take any of those, check your specific medications first.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Lab tests on extracts from different parts of common and dense-flowered mullein plants show that they do have some blood-thinning effects, as they increase the time it takes for blood to clot. This is likely due to at least one of the known constituents of muellein, triterpenoid saponins. However, the effects appear to be mild and results have been inconsistent. Extracts from different plant parts have been show to have varying anticoagulant strengths, with water-based ones being more potent than alcohol-based extracts.

Mullein Leaf by Cedar Bear: Common Questions

Does Mullein Leaf by Cedar Bear interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Mullein Leaf has a known interaction with 122 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Mullein Leaf contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take Mullein Leaf if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The safety data advise against it in both cases because there isn't enough information to know it's safe. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your situation before taking it.
Does mullein actually work for cough or bronchitis?
We don't have reliable evidence to confirm it does. The studies on mullein for those uses aren't strong enough yet to say whether it works.
What's in this liquid formula?
It's mullein in a proprietary blend, with vegetable glycerine and purified water as the liquid base.
Can I get a skin reaction from this supplement?
Direct contact with the mullein plant itself has caused dermatitis in a few reported cases, especially with topical exposure. The liquid form is unlikely to pose that risk, but it's worth knowing if you handle the plant directly.
Is mullein safe for long-term use?
Human safety data are limited, and we only have good tolerance information for short-term use. If you're thinking of taking it for weeks or months, talk with your doctor or pharmacist first.
