Multi-Flora Probiotic Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Multi-Flora Probiotic against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Multi-Flora Probiotic contains 5 active ingredients, all of them live bacterial strains commonly found in fermented foods and your own gut. The main ones are Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium bifidum, which are well-studied probiotics believed to support digestive and immune health.
The product also includes Lactobacillus lactis, Lactobacillus reuteri, and Lactobacillus plantarum — a blend designed to deliver a mix of beneficial species. The inactive ingredients are Jerusalem Artichoke, a vegetable capsule, cellulose, medium chain triglycerides, and water — these serve as fillers and the capsule itself.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
L. acidophilus is possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. Bifidobacterium bifidum is possibly effective for IBS and respiratory tract infections.
For other conditions listed in our data — like allergic rhinitis (hay fever), Alzheimer disease, and generalized anxiety disorder — we don't have enough reliable evidence to say one way or the other. The other three Lactobacillus strains in this product don't have effectiveness ratings in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both L. acidophilus and B. bifidum are generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, the safety data are limited in some areas, so it's worth checking with your doctor before you start, especially if you have a weakened immune system — probiotics carry a theoretical risk of infection in people who are immunocompromised.
Common side effects are usually mild and rare: bloating, flatulence, abdominal discomfort, and gas. In clinical trials, rashes and itching have occasionally been reported, though it's unclear which ingredient — or the combination itself — caused them.
L. acidophilus contains live organisms, which means there's a small theoretical concern about serious infections (like sepsis or bacteremia) in very specific circumstances; most documented cases appear to be due to bacteria moving from other parts of the body rather than from the supplement itself. For pregnancy, L. acidophilus is rated possibly safe; we have no lactation data on file for either ingredient.
Because evidence is limited, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take Multi-Flora Probiotic, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on antibiotics. The live bacteria in this product can be killed off if you take them at the same time, making the probiotic less effective.
Time your doses apart — your healthcare provider can advise you on the best schedule for your situation.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic blend is generally well tolerated and may help with IBS, antibiotic-related diarrhea, and a few other digestive concerns. The main thing to watch is taking it separately from antibiotics — at least a few hours apart — so the antibiotics don't kill off the live bacteria.
If you're immunocompromised or pregnant, or if you take any regular medications, talk it over with your doctor or pharmacist before you start.

Lactobacillus acidophilus
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
Bifidobacterium bifidum
Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium. bifidum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. bifidum.
Since B. bifidum preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. bifidum preparations by at least 2 hours.
