Mushroom Complex Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Mushroom Complex against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains 3 active ingredients: organic cordyceps mushroom, organic lion's mane mushroom, and organic reishi mushroom. Each is a standardized extract meant to deliver the mushroom's bioactive compounds.
The capsules themselves are vegetarian.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for these mushrooms in the conditions they're marketed for is quite limited. Cordyceps is possibly ineffective for athletic performance based on current data, and there's insufficient evidence to rate it for sexual dysfunction, heart rhythm problems, asthma, lung cancer, or COPD.
Lion's mane has insufficient evidence for Alzheimer's disease, anxiety, athletic performance, cancer, or cognitive function. Reishi is possibly ineffective for high cholesterol, and there's insufficient evidence for altitude sickness, Alzheimer's disease, or athletic performance.
In short, the data we hold doesn't establish what these mushrooms can reliably do for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Cordyceps is generally well tolerated for up to a year, though the evidence is limited and mushroom product quality varies widely. The most common side effects are abdominal discomfort, constipation, or diarrhea — these are uncommon and may ease if you take it after eating.
There's one case report of liver inflammation (cholestasis) linked to a cordyceps product, though it's unclear whether cordyceps itself or a contaminant was responsible. Lion's mane is generally well tolerated as a food, but long-term supplement safety hasn't been well studied.
Gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, and skin rash can occur. Reishi is generally well tolerated short-term, though long-term safety data is sparse.
Reported side effects include dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, stomach upset, and rarely insomnia or headache. Respiratory allergy to reishi spores, sore throat, and runny nose have also been reported.
None of these ingredients have enough safety data during pregnancy or breastfeeding — the safety data advises against use in both.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check before taking this if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants like warfarin or antiplatelet drugs like aspirin), immune-suppressing medications, diabetes drugs, or blood pressure medications. The most serious concern is increased bleeding risk with blood thinners — all three mushrooms in this product may affect how your blood clots.
If you take testosterone supplements, that's also worth discussing with your pharmacist.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This mushroom blend is generally well tolerated short-term, but the evidence for what it actually does for you is very limited. If you take blood thinners, diabetes medications, blood pressure medications, or immune-suppressing drugs, you'll need to check with your pharmacist first.
Avoid during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless you've talked with your doctor.

Mushroom Complex by Fresh Nutrition Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Fresh Nutrition's Mushroom Complex contains three mushroom extracts, all of which interact with medications.
The most serious concerns are with blood thinners (anticoagulants/antiplatelets) — cordyceps, lion's mane, and reishi all theoretically increase bleeding risk. This is a Moderate severity interaction.
For cordyceps, the effect is based on lab and animal studies showing it slows platelet clumping, though it hasn't been reported in humans yet. Lion's mane mushroom also appears to inhibit platelet aggregation in lab work, and reishi at higher doses (3 grams daily or more) may do the same.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
You'll also want to check your medications if you take immune-suppressing drugs (for transplants or autoimmune conditions), diabetes medications, or blood pressure medications. Cordyceps and lion's mane both theoretically interfere with immunosuppressants.
Lion's mane and reishi may lower blood sugar and blood pressure further, potentially requiring dose adjustments. Reishi could add to the blood-pressure-lowering effect of your antihypertensive drugs.
Cordyceps carries a Minor interaction with testosterone products.
Altogether, these interactions span 495 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up any prescriptions or over-the-counter drugs you're taking before you start.

organic Reishi Mushrooms
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
organic Lion's Mane Mushroom
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, lion's mane mushroom may increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research suggests that lion's mane mushroom extracts can inhibit platelet aggregation.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, lion's mane mushroom may have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that an aqueous extract of lion's mane mushroom can reduce serum glucose and increase serum insulin.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of lion's mane mushroom might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
In animal and in vitro research, lion's mane mushroom polysaccharides stimulate the immune system.
organic Cordyceps Mushroom
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, cordyceps may increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
In vitro and animal research suggests that cordyceps extract inhibits platelet aggregation and function. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps might interfere with immunosuppressive therapy.
Animal and in vitro research suggests that cordyceps stimulates the immune system. However, limited clinical research suggests that taking cordyceps may lower the necessary therapeutic dose of the immunosuppressant cyclosporine, which suggests that cordyceps may have an immunosuppressive effect.
Testosterone
Theoretically, concurrent use of cordyceps and testosterone might have additive effects.
Animal research suggests that cordyceps can increase testosterone levels. The clinical significance of this finding is unclear.
