NeuropAway Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by VasoCorp
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking NeuropAway against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
NeuropAway contains six active ingredients. Taurine, L-citrulline, and beta-alanine are amino acids that support athletic performance and circulatory function.
Acetyl-L-carnitine is a compound involved in energy production and may support cognitive health. Methylcobalamin is a form of vitamin B12, essential for nerve function and energy.
R-alpha-lipoic acid is an antioxidant that may help with nerve-related discomfort and metabolism. The product also contains three inactive ingredients (gelatin, silica, and magnesium stearate) as capsule material and stabilizers.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Evidence varies by ingredient and intended use. Taurine is possibly effective for hepatitis and congestive heart failure but possibly ineffective for weight loss.
L-citrulline is possibly effective for athletic performance but evidence for heart disease, heart failure, and diabetes is insufficient to rate. Beta-alanine is possibly effective for athletic and physical performance, but evidence for cognitive decline, COPD, and cognition is insufficient.
Acetyl-L-carnitine is possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline, Alzheimer's disease, alcohol use disorder, diabetic nerve pain, and depression. Methylcobalamin (B12) is effective for vitamin B12 deficiency and certain neurological conditions.
Alpha-lipoic acid is possibly effective for diabetic nerve pain, high cholesterol, and weight loss. The product's overall effectiveness depends on which condition you're targeting — check the specific ingredient ratings above.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most ingredients are generally well tolerated short-term in healthy adults, though long-term safety data is limited for several. Common side effects include gastrointestinal discomfort (constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, nausea), headache, and skin tingling or flushing from beta-alanine.
Taurine may cause allergic reactions in people with sulfonamide sensitivities. Acetyl-L-carnitine can cause agitation, dry mouth, insomnia, and reduced appetite.
Alpha-lipoic acid may lower blood sugar and cause headache or rash. Methylcobalamin (B12) is very safe with no established upper limit and is needed in pregnancy and breastfeeding; however, L-citrulline, beta-alanine, alpha-lipoic acid, and acetyl-L-carnitine lack sufficient safety data in pregnancy and breastfeeding — the facts advise avoiding them in those states.
Taurine is rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking NeuropAway, double-check these medication types with your pharmacist: serotonergic drugs like antidepressants and some pain medications (Moderate risk with acetyl-L-carnitine); blood pressure medications (Moderate risk with taurine and L-citrulline); blood thinners like warfarin and antiplatelet drugs such as aspirin (Moderate risk with acetyl-L-carnitine and alpha-lipoic acid); erectile dysfunction medications (Moderate risk with L-citrulline); lithium (Moderate risk with taurine); thyroid hormone (Moderate risk with acetyl-L-carnitine and alpha-lipoic acid); chemotherapy drugs including alkylating agents and antitumor antibiotics (Moderate risk with alpha-lipoic acid); and diabetes medications (Minor risk with alpha-lipoic acid and potential B12-lowering from metformin). If you're on metformin, your B12 levels may already be lower, so supplemental B12 here could help — but confirm with your provider.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
NeuropAway may be worth considering if you're looking to support athletic performance, circulation, or cognition — but it has multiple medication interactions you need to check first. If you take blood pressure medications, blood thinners, antidepressants, lithium, diabetes drugs, thyroid hormone, or any chemotherapy, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before starting.

NeuropAway by VasoCorp Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
NeuropAway by VasoCorp contains six active ingredients, several of which interact with medications.
The most serious interaction involves acetyl-L-carnitine with serotonergic drugs (antidepressants, certain pain medications, and others), which carry a Moderate severity rating — theoretically increasing the risk of serotonin syndrome and related cerebral effects.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Additionally, multiple ingredients affect blood pressure management: taurine and L-citrulline both interact Moderately with antihypertensive drugs by potentially causing low blood pressure (hypotension). L-citrulline also interacts Moderately with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (erectile dysfunction medications like sildenafil/Viagra), which could have additive blood-pressure-lowering effects.
Acetyl-L-carnitine carries Moderate interactions with blood thinners (warfarin and acenocoumarol), potentially increasing their anticoagulant effects. Taurine also interacts Moderately with lithium, a mood stabilizer, by theoretically reducing its excretion.
Alpha-lipoic acid interacts Moderately with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (aspirin, clopidogrel), raising bleeding risk, and with some chemotherapy drugs and thyroid hormone. Methylcobalamin (vitamin B12) has a Minor interaction with metformin (a diabetes medication), as metformin can lower B12 levels.
Beta-alanine has no documented interactions in our data. Altogether, these interactions span 615 individual medications.

R-Alpha-Lipoic Acid
Alkylating Agents
Theoretically, the antioxidant effects of alpha-lipoic acid might alter the effectiveness of alkylating agents.
The use of antioxidants like alpha-lipoic acid during chemotherapy is controversial. There are concerns that antioxidants could reduce the activity of chemotherapy drugs that generate free radicals. However, some researchers theorize that antioxidants might make chemotherapy more effective by reducing oxidative stress that might interfere with apoptosis (cell death) of cancer cells. More evidence is needed to determine what effect, if any, antioxidants such as alpha-lipoic acid have on chemotherapy. Advise patients to consult their oncologist before using alpha-lipoic acid.
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, alpha-lipoic acid may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro, alpha-lipoic acid inhibits platelet aggregation.
Antitumor Antibiotics
Theoretically, the antioxidant effects of alpha-lipoic acid might alter the effectiveness of antitumor antibiotics.
The use of antioxidants like alpha-lipoic acid during chemotherapy is controversial. There are concerns that antioxidants could reduce the activity of antitumor antibiotic drugs, which work by generating free radicals. However, some researchers theorize that antioxidants might make chemotherapy more effective by reducing oxidative stress that might interfere with apoptosis (cell death) of cancer cells. More evidence is needed to determine what effect, if any, antioxidants such as alpha-lipoic acid have on chemotherapy involving antitumor antibiotics. Advise patients to consult their oncologist before using alpha-lipoic acid.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, alpha-lipoic acid might decrease the effects of thyroid hormone drugs.
Animal research suggests that co-administration of thyroxine with alpha-lipoic acid reduces conversion into the active T3 form.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, taking alpha-lipoic acid with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Although some small clinical studies have suggested that alpha-lipoic acid can lower blood glucose levels, larger clinical studies in patients with diabetes have shown no clinically meaningful effect. Additionally, co-administration of single doses of alpha-lipoic acid and glyburide or acarbose did not cause detectable drug interactions in healthy volunteers.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine
Acenocoumarol (Sintrom)
Theoretically, acetyl-L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol.
L-carnitine, the parent compound of acetyl-L-carnitine, might enhance the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, an oral anticoagulant that is similar to warfarin, but shorter-acting. There are at least two case reports of INR elevation when L-carnitine was taken with acenocoumarol. In one case, a 33-year-old male with a previously stable INR had an elevated INR of 4.65 after L-carnitine was started and continued for 10 weeks. INR normalized after discontinuation of the L-carnitine-containing product. It is unclear if such an interaction would also occur with acetyl-L-carnitine.
Serotonergic Drugs
Theoretically, acetyl-L-carnitine might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome and cerebral vasoconstrictive disorders, when taken with serotonergic drugs.
Animal research shows that acetyl-L-carnitine can increase levels of serotonin in the brain.
Thyroid Hormone
Theoretically, acetyl-L-carnitine might decrease the effectiveness of thyroid hormone replacement.
L-carnitine appears to act as a peripheral thyroid hormone antagonist by inhibiting entry of thyroid hormone into the nucleus of cells. Taking L-carnitine also seems to diminish some of the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. It is unclear if such an interaction would occur with acetyl-L-carnitine.
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, acetyl-L-carnitine might increase the anticoagulant effects of warfarin.
L-carnitine, the parent compound of acetyl-L-carnitine, might increase the anticoagulant effects of acenocoumarol, a shorter-acting oral anticoagulant similar to warfarin. There is not enough information to know whether this interaction occurs with acetyl-L-carnitine and warfarin.
L-Citrulline
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concomitant use of L-citrulline with antihypertensive drugs might have additive effects and increase the chance of hypotension.
L-citrulline is converted to L-arginine, which can increase nitric oxide and cause vasodilation. However, a meta-analysis of 5 small clinical studies suggests that taking L-citrulline 3-6 grams daily for 1-8 weeks does not lower blood pressure when compared with control.
Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibitors
Theoretically, concurrent use of phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors and L-citrulline might result in additive vasodilation.
L-citrulline is converted to L-arginine, which can increase nitric oxide and cause vasodilation. Theoretically, taking L-arginine with PDE-5 inhibitors might have additive vasodilatory and hypotensive effects. However, in studies evaluating the combined use of L-arginine and sildenafil for erectile dysfunction, hypotension was not reported.
Taurine
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, taurine might increase the risk of hypotension when taken with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical evidence suggests that taurine can reduce both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Lithium
Theoretically, taurine might reduce excretion and increase plasma levels of lithium.
Taurine is thought to have diuretic properties, which might reduce the excretion of lithium.
Methylcobalamin
Metformin (Glucophage)
Metformin, a common medication used to manage type 2 diabetes, has been associated with lower vitamin B12 levels in some individuals. Prolonged use of metformin can interfere with the absorption of B12 in the digestive system, potentially leading to a deficiency in this essential vitamin.
