What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Niu Bang Zi against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic Niu Bang Zi (Arctium lappa) dried seed liquid extract — commonly known as burdock seed. Burdock is a root vegetable used in traditional herbal practice.
The liquid extract is suspended in menstruum, an inactive carrier.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for burdock isn't established in our data. Effectiveness ratings are listed as insufficient reliable evidence for acne, aging skin, breast cancer, common cold, and eczema.
That means studies so far haven't been robust enough to know whether it actually works for these purposes. If you're considering it for a specific concern, chat with your doctor about what the research currently shows.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Burdock is generally well tolerated as a food and for short-term use in healthy adults, though human safety data are limited. Allergic reactions are rare but can happen, including contact dermatitis and, very rarely, anaphylaxis.
A case of liver injury was reported in someone taking a multi-ingredient detox tea containing burdock, but it's unclear whether burdock alone was responsible. Contact dermatitis has occurred with prolonged use of burdock root oil and burdock plasters.
Do not take medicinal amounts of burdock during pregnancy — safety data are lacking and it may affect the uterus. Avoid medicinal use while breastfeeding; there isn't enough safety information.
If you're pregnant or nursing and interested in burdock, talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Niu Bang Zi, double-check with your pharmacist or doctor if you take any anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs — blood thinners like warfarin, aspirin, or clopidogrel. Burdock may increase bleeding risk with these medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Burdock seed extract is a single-ingredient product that's been used traditionally with few reported side effects, though formal safety research is limited. If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, you'll want to clear this with your doctor or pharmacist first.
Pregnant or breastfeeding? Skip medicinal amounts and discuss it with your healthcare provider.
For most other people taking no blood-thinning medications, it's worth checking any other drugs you're on before you start.

Niu Bang Zi by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra's Niu Bang Zi, which contains burdock seed extract, does interact with one important medication category.
Through its burdock content, it may increase bleeding risk when taken with blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (medications that prevent clots). Lab work suggests burdock's compounds can reduce how platelets clump together, though this hasn't been observed in human use yet.
