Abciximab falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Burdock interacts with.

Theoretically, taking burdock with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding.

In vitro research shows that lignans from burdock reduce rabbit platelet aggregation by inhibiting platelet activating factor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the thing to know about abciximab (ReoPro): it's a powerful IV antiplatelet medicine given in the hospital, usually during procedures like angioplasty or stent placement. It already makes your platelets much less sticky to prevent clots, so bleeding is the main thing your care team watches for.

Burdock contains plant compounds (lignans) that, in lab and animal studies only, slowed platelet clumping. In theory, layering that on top of abciximab could nudge your bleeding risk up a bit (think easier bruising, bleeding gums, or oozing at IV or catheter sites). This has never actually been reported in people, so it's a soft, theoretical concern. Since abciximab is hospital-given, your team manages all of this. Just tell them about any burdock you take.
