Abciximab falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, danshen may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Danshen has been reported to have antithrombotic effects. Animal research also suggests that taking a danshen combination formula with clopidogrel exhibits a synergistic increase in antiplatelet aggregation and prolongation of coagulation time when compared with either taken alone.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: Abciximab (ReoPro) is already a powerful platelet blocker given in the hospital during heart procedures like stenting to keep platelets from clumping. Danshen, on its own, also appears to thin the blood and slow clotting. Stack the two together and you could tip the balance too far, raising the risk of bleeding (think easy bruising, oozing at IV or catheter sites, nosebleeds, or in rare cases more serious internal bleeding).

I'll be honest with you, this concern is mostly theoretical and based on animal and anecdotal reports, not strong human studies. Still, since abciximab is used in a tightly monitored setting, please tell your care team about any Danshen you take so they can watch you closely. Never start or stop either one on your own.
