Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Bromfenac Sodium
Bromfenac Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Danshen interacts with.
Danshen has been reported to have antithrombotic effects. Animal research also suggests that taking a danshen combination formula with clopidogrel exhibits a synergistic increase in antiplatelet aggregation and prolongation of coagulation time when compared with either taken alone.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's something worth knowing about pairing Danshen with bromfenac eye drops (Prolensa or Bromsite). Danshen may slow blood clotting, and bromfenac is an NSAID, a drug class that can also nudge bleeding risk a bit. So in theory, using them together could raise your chance of bleeding or bruising more easily.
That said, I want to keep this in perspective. Bromfenac goes into your eye, so very little reaches your bloodstream. Most of this concern comes from anecdotal reports and animal studies, not strong human evidence. The bigger worry would be if you take other blood thinners too. Still, after cataract surgery your eye is healing, so it's smart to mention any Danshen use to your eye doctor or pharmacist first.
