Why this applies to Lofepramine

Lofepramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Danshen interacts with.

Theoretically, danshen may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP1A2.
In vitro research shows that danshen tincture and various constituents of danshen inhibit the activity of CYP1A2. However, this activity has not been shown in humans when theophylline, a CYP1A2 substrate, was used as a target drug.

Here's the quick picture for Lofepramine and Danshen. Lofepramine is a tricyclic antidepressant that the liver processes, partly through an enzyme called CYP1A2. In lab and test-tube studies, Danshen appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in the body, your Lofepramine might be cleared a little less efficiently and build up, which could mean more of its usual side effects: dry mouth, constipation, blurry vision, drowsiness, dizziness on standing, or a faster heartbeat.

I'd keep this in perspective, though. This is theoretical, based only on lab data, and a human study using a similar CYP1A2 drug did not show a real effect. So it's worth a heads-up, not alarm. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and don't change your dose on your own.
