Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Lofepramine
Lofepramine falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Beer interacts with.
Concomitant use of alcohol with CNS depressants can increase sedative and other adverse effects, potentially through inhibition of the metabolism of certain CNS depressants.
Well-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
Lofepramine is a tricyclic antidepressant, and like the rest of that family it already tends to make people feel drowsy. When you add beer to the mix, the alcohol piles onto that same effect. Both act on the brain to slow things down, so together they can leave you feeling much more sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or unsteady on your feet than either one alone.
This is rated a major and likely interaction, so it is worth taking seriously. You might notice slowed reactions, poor coordination, trouble concentrating, or worse next-day grogginess, which makes driving risky. The amount in a single drink can matter for some people. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Have a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor about whether any alcohol is safe for you.

About Beer
What is Beer?
- Social and recreational drinking
- Relaxation
- Heart health (popular belief)
- Bone health (popular belief)
- Source of antioxidants and B vitamins
Beer is an alcoholic beverage that contains some minerals, B vitamins, and plant compounds from hops and grain, but it is not a health supplement. Any possible benefits come only from light-to-moderate intake, and they are easily outweighed by the well-known harms of alcohol. The safest amount of alcohol for health is none, and beer should be avoided in pregnancy and breastfeeding.
