Why this applies to Zopiclone

Zopiclone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Danshen interacts with.

Danshen might alter the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Preliminary clinical research in healthy males shows that the administration of danshen for 10-14 days induces intestinal CYP3A4 and increases the clearance of midazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate. The maximum concentration of midazolam was decreased by 31% to 67%, and drug levels were decreased by 27% to 80%. However, a single dose of danshen has the opposite effect, increasing maximum concentrations of midazolam by 87%.

Here's the situation with Danshen and your sleep medicine. Zopiclone relies on a liver and gut enzyme called CYP3A4 to be broken down and cleared from your body. Danshen can nudge this enzyme in different directions depending on how long you've been taking it. When taken regularly for a week or two, Danshen seems to speed up that enzyme, which could lower your zopiclone levels and make it less effective, so you might find it harder to fall or stay asleep.

Interestingly, a single dose of Danshen may do the opposite and raise levels briefly, which could mean more next-morning grogginess, dizziness, or that bitter metallic taste lingering. The evidence here is fairly limited, so I wouldn't panic, but please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing these two.
