In vitro research shows that lignans from burdock reduce rabbit platelet aggregation by inhibiting platelet activating factor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's a quirk worth knowing about. Our interaction file flags burdock alongside blood thinners, and the worry is that burdock's plant compounds (lignans) might make platelets a little less sticky and slightly raise bleeding risk. But this comes from lab work with rabbit cells, not from people, so it's theoretical.

The bigger thing to point out: Spinraza (nusinersen) is not a blood thinner at all. It's given as a spinal injection to boost a protein your nerves and muscles need. It doesn't share burdock's metabolism or thin your blood, so this particular category-based flag doesn't really fit how Spinraza works. Still, since Spinraza is injected near the spine, mention any supplements to your care team before a dose, just to be safe.

Brand name: Spinraza

Spinraza (nusinersen) is used to treat spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) — a genetic disease that causes progressive muscle weakness by reducing the body's ability to make a protein called SMN (survival motor neuron). Spinraza is approved for pediatric and adult patients with SMA.

Spinraza is given by intrathecal injection — directly into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord — so the medicine can reach the central nervous system where it's needed most.
