Here is the honest take on this pairing. The interaction on file lines Spinraza up with the blood-thinner category, but that grouping is really pointing at one specific thing: when nusinersen is given, your care team often checks your blood clotting and platelet counts, because these injections can sometimes affect clotting. Higenamine, in animal studies only, seems to slow platelets from sticking together, so the theory is that it could nudge you toward easier bruising or bleeding.

This is purely theoretical (lab and animal data, not proven in people), so I would not panic. Still, since Spinraza is given by spinal tap and clotting matters, it is worth mentioning any pre-workout or weight-loss supplement to your doctor before your next dose.

What Is Nusinersen Injection Used For?

Brand name: Spinraza

Spinraza (nusinersen) is used to treat spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) — a genetic disease that causes progressive muscle weakness by reducing the body's ability to make a protein called SMN (survival motor neuron). Spinraza is approved for pediatric and adult patients with SMA.

Spinraza is given by intrathecal injection — directly into the fluid surrounding the spinal cord — so the medicine can reach the central nervous system where it's needed most.
