Why this applies to Triazolam

Triazolam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Higenamine interacts with.

Theoretically, higenamine might increase the levels and clinical effects drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that higenamine inhibits CYP3A4 enzymes by 21%. However, this effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea with these two. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear triazolam (Halcion) out of your system. In lab testing, higenamine slowed that enzyme down a bit (around 21%). If that happened in real life, triazolam could hang around longer than usual, which might make its effects stronger, such as deeper drowsiness, next-morning grogginess, dizziness, poor balance, or trouble with memory.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. So far it has only shown up in test-tube studies, not in actual people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. Since triazolam is already a strong sleep medicine, I'd run this combo past your pharmacist or doctor before mixing them.

What Is Triazolam Used For?

Brand names: Halcion, Triazo, Apo-Triazo, Gen-Triazolam, Mylan-Triazolam, Novo-Triolam, Nu-Triazo

Triazolam tablets are approved for the short-term treatment of insomnia in adults. Treatment is generally intended for 7 to 10 days. Halcion (a brand of triazolam) is specifically indicated for this same short-term use in adults.

Using triazolam for more than 2 to 3 weeks requires a full re-evaluation by your doctor to rule out an underlying medical or psychiatric condition driving the sleep problem.
