Ibrutinib falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Burdock interacts with.

Theoretically, taking burdock with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding.

In vitro research shows that lignans from burdock reduce rabbit platelet aggregation by inhibiting platelet activating factor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with ibrutinib (Imbruvica): this medicine already has its own effect on platelets, the tiny cells that help your blood clot. That's why bruising easily, nosebleeds, and bleeding are well-known side effects of it. Burdock, at least in lab dishes, showed a mild ability to make platelets clump less. So in theory, stacking the two could nudge your bleeding risk a bit higher.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes from test-tube and animal studies only, and it has never actually been reported in people. Eating burdock as a vegetable is unlikely to matter much; concentrated supplements are more of a question mark. Before adding a burdock supplement, check with your oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Ibrutinib Used For?

Brand name: Imbruvica

Imbruvica (ibrutinib) is approved for adult patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) / small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL), including those with a specific genetic change called 17p deletion, and for adult patients with Waldenström's macroglobulinemia (WM), a rare type of blood cancer.

Imbruvica is also approved for chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) — a complication that can occur after a stem cell transplant — in adults and children aged 1 year and older whose condition did not respond to at least one prior treatment.
