Treprostinil falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Burdock interacts with.

Theoretically, taking burdock with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding.

In vitro research shows that lignans from burdock reduce rabbit platelet aggregation by inhibiting platelet activating factor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Treprostinil (Orenitram). It's used for pulmonary arterial hypertension, and on its own it already has a mild blood-thinning effect because it relaxes blood vessels and discourages platelets from clumping. Burdock has been shown, in lab dishes using rabbit platelets, to make platelets a little less sticky too. So in theory, stacking the two could nudge your bleeding risk up a bit.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's only lab and animal data, and it has never actually been reported in people. Eating burdock as a vegetable is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question mark. If you notice easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums, loop in your doctor or pharmacist before changing anything.

Burdock is a traditional herb most often used for skin problems and as a so-called 'blood purifier,' but high-quality human studies are lacking and most claims are not well proven. It is widely eaten as a vegetable and is generally considered low-risk for short-term use in healthy adults, but it should be avoided during pregnancy and breastfeeding and by people allergic to ragweed or daisy-family plants.

About Treprostinil

What Is Treprostinil Used For?

Treprostinil treats pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH; WHO Group 1) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. Depending on the product and route, it is used to improve exercise ability, delay disease progression, or reduce symptoms tied to physical activity. Remodulin and treprostinil injection products are also indicated for patients who need to transition away from another PAH medicine called epoprostenol.

Tyvaso, Tyvaso DPI, and Yutrepia (inhaled forms) are additionally approved to treat pulmonary hypertension associated with interstitial lung disease (PH-ILD; WHO Group 3) — lung-pressure problems caused by scarring or inflammation in the lung tissue itself. Orenitram (extended-release oral tablet) is specifically indicated to delay disease progression and improve exercise capacity in PAH.
