What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Niu Bang Zi against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: certified organic Niu Bang Zi (Arctium lappa) — also known as burdock — in the form of a dried seed liquid extract. Burdock is a root vegetable with a long history in herbal traditions.
The liquid extract form means the active compounds from the seeds have been concentrated and dissolved into a preparation you can take by mouth.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold on burdock for common uses — acne, aging skin, breast cancer, common cold, and eczema — is insufficient to establish whether it works. That doesn't mean it doesn't; it means the scientific data we have isn't strong enough to say either way.
If you're considering this for a specific condition, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current evidence supports.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
When burdock is eaten as a food, it's well tolerated, and it has a long history of use with few reported side effects. For medicinal use, though, human safety data are limited, so caution is warranted.
Serious allergic reactions are rare but possible, including contact dermatitis (a rash from skin contact) and, very rarely, anaphylaxis. A single case of liver injury has been reported in someone taking a multi-ingredient herbal tea that contained burdock; it's unclear whether burdock was responsible.
Contact dermatitis has also occurred with prolonged use of burdock root oil or plasters, sometimes appearing days after application. Because safety data in pregnancy are lacking and there's a possibility of effects on the uterus, avoid medicinal amounts of burdock if you're pregnant.
There isn't enough safety information to recommend it during breastfeeding either. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about these concerns before taking this product if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start Niu Bang Zi, double-check any blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs you're on — such as warfarin, dabigatran, rivaroxaban, aspirin, clopidogrel, or ticagrelor. Lab evidence suggests burdock may thin the blood further, though this hasn't been reported in humans.
Clear it with your doctor or pharmacist first.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Niu Bang Zi is generally well tolerated when used short-term, but the evidence for its effectiveness for common conditions isn't established in our data. If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet medications, check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interaction is theoretical but documented in lab research.
Pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid it. It's worth a conversation with your own healthcare provider about whether this is right for you.

Niu Bang Zi by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herbal Terra's Niu Bang Zi (burdock seed extract) has documented interactions with one medication type: anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs (blood thinners and antiplatelet medications).
Lab research shows that compounds in burdock may reduce how blood platelets clump together, which theoretically could increase bleeding risk if you're taking these drugs. However, this interaction has not been reported in actual human use.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Because the evidence is lab-based rather than from real-world cases, the severity is rated Moderate. If you take any blood thinners like warfarin, dabigatran, or rivaroxaban, or antiplatelet drugs like clopidogrel or ticagrelor, you'll want to check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.
Altogether, these interactions span 122 individual medications.
