Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product is pure organic amla (also called Indian gooseberry) — one active ingredient, five grams per serving in powder form. There are no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Amla is possibly effective for acid reflux (GERD) and high cholesterol (dyslipidemia). The evidence isn't strong enough yet to rate it for male-pattern hair loss (androgenic alopecia), and we don't have reliable data on whether it helps with general high cholesterol numbers (hypercholesterolemia).
It's mostly studied as a food and traditional remedy rather than as a supplement at standardized doses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Amla is generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement safety at higher doses is less studied. There isn't enough safety data to recommend it during pregnancy or breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
In clinical trials, a small number of people reported stomach discomfort, fatigue, or muscle pain, though these were rare.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start this product, double-check your medications with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants), aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), or diabetes medications. All four drug types have moderate-severity interactions documented with amla.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Amla powder might help with acid reflux or cholesterol, but it's mainly for people not taking blood thinners, aspirin, clopidogrel, or diabetes medications. If you're on any of those, or if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Run your medications through the interaction checker on this page to be sure.

Organic Amla 5 g Unflavored by Nutricost Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Nutricost Organic Amla 5 g Unflavored, made from Indian gooseberry, does interact with blood thinners (anticoagulants), aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), and diabetes medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners: research shows that amla reduces platelet clumping by 24% to 36% and increases bleeding time by about 3.8 to 5.9 seconds, which could raise your bleeding risk if you're already taking a blood thinner.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Aspirin and clopidogrel carry the same moderate-severity concern — amla may add to their blood-thinning effects and increase bleeding risk, though the research isn't entirely consistent. If you take any blood thinner, aspirin regularly, or clopidogrel, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this supplement.
Amla may also lower blood sugar levels if you're on diabetes medications, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Your dose might need adjusting, so check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.
Altogether, these interactions span 208 individual medications. Use the search tool below to look up your exact prescriptions before you start.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, Indian gooseberry may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Clinical research shows that taking Indian gooseberry 500 mg as a single dose or twice daily for 10 days reduces platelet aggregation by about 24% to 36%, increases bleeding time by about 3.8-5.9 seconds, and increases clotting time by about 9.8-12.7 seconds when compared to baseline. However, taking Indian gooseberry 500 mg along with clopidogrel 75 mg or ecosprin 75 mg, as a single dose or for 10 days, does not significantly reduce platelet aggregation or increase bleeding time or clotting time when compared with clopidogrel 75 mg or ecosprin 75 mg alone. Until more is known, use caution when taking Indian gooseberry in combination with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Taking Indian gooseberry with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Clinical research shows that taking Indian gooseberry fruit or fruit extract alone or in conjunction with antidiabetes medications can lower blood glucose levels. Dose adjustments to diabetes medications might be necessary.
Aspirin
Theoretically, Indian gooseberry may increase the risk of bleeding if used with aspirin; however, research is conflicting.
However, taking a single dose of Indian gooseberry 500 mg along with ecosprin 75 mg, or taking a combination of Indian gooseberry 500 mg twice daily plus ecosprin 75 mg once daily for 10 days, does not significantly reduce platelet aggregation or increase bleeding time or clotting time when compared with ecosprin 75 mg alone.
Clopidogrel (Plavix)
Theoretically, Indian gooseberry may increase the risk of bleeding if used with clopidogrel; however, research is conflicting.
