Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: pantethine, a derivative of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), supplied at 300 mg per tablet. The remaining ingredients are inactive: microcrystalline cellulose, modified cellulose gum, silica, and stearic acid, which help form and stabilize the tablet.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: supports cholesterol wellness.
  • We looked for evidence on: Hyperlipidemia, Hyperlipoproteinemia, High triglycerides, Dyslipidemia.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Pantethine is rated "Possibly Effective" for Hyperlipoproteinemia (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Pantethine is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Hyperlipidemia.

Pantethine is possibly effective for hyperlipoproteinemia (abnormally high levels of lipids in the blood). For athletic performance and other forms of high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), the evidence we hold is insufficient — meaning it hasn't been reliably studied for those uses.

For pantothenate kinase-associated neurodegeneration (PKAN), a rare genetic disorder, the evidence is also insufficient.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Pantethine is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data are limited. The most common side effects are mild gastrointestinal complaints: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, and epigastric discomfort (pain in the upper belly).

Mild itching has been reported rarely. Pregnancy safety data aren't on file — there isn't enough reliable information to know whether pantethine is safe during pregnancy.

Safety during breastfeeding has not been well studied either, so caution is advised. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Pantethine.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs.
  • For scale: 122 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs — such as warfarin, aspirin, clopidogrel, or similar medications — check your exact drug names with the search tool before taking pantethine. The interaction carries Moderate severity and centers on a possible increase in bleeding risk.

Pantethine 300 mg by Source Naturals: Common Questions

Does Pantethine 300 mg by Source Naturals interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Pantethine 300 mg has a known interaction with 122 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Pantethine 300 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
What is pantethine used for?
Pantethine is a derivative of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). It is possibly effective for hyperlipoproteinemia — abnormally high levels of lipids (fats) in your blood. For athletic performance and other forms of high cholesterol, we hold insufficient evidence to say whether it works.
What are the most common side effects?
Most side effects are mild and gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating, flatulence, and discomfort in the upper belly. Mild itching has been reported rarely. Overall, pantethine is generally well tolerated in studies.
Is it safe to take pantethine if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough reliable data to know whether pantethine is safe during pregnancy. Safety during breastfeeding hasn't been well studied either. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant, trying to conceive, or nursing.
Does pantethine interact with blood thinners?
Yes — it may increase your bleeding risk. Pantethine theoretically reduces platelet aggregation and could enhance the effect of anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or aspirin. Check your exact medications with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
What's in this tablet besides pantethine?
The other ingredients are inactive (fillers and binders): microcrystalline cellulose, modified cellulose gum, silica, and stearic acid. They don't add therapeutic benefit but help form the tablet.
Is there long-term safety data for pantethine?
Long-term safety data are limited. Pantethine is generally well tolerated in studies conducted so far, but we don't have extensive information on very long-term use. If you plan to take it for an extended period, discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist.
