What’s inside
Full disclosure
This powder contains one active ingredient: phosphatidylserine, a naturally occurring compound found in cell membranes. It's been studied mainly for age-related memory changes and cognitive decline.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Phosphatidylserine is possibly effective for age-related cognitive decline and Alzheimer disease. For athletic performance, attention, general cognitive function, and dementia, the evidence we hold is insufficient to rate it.
Talk with your doctor about whether it fits your own goals.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Phosphatidylserine is generally well tolerated in studies, but long-term safety isn't fully established. The most common side effects are flatulence, gastrointestinal upset, headache, insomnia, and nausea — insomnia is more likely at higher doses (around 600 mg), and stomach upset can appear at 200–300 mg per day.
There isn't enough safety data to recommend it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this powder, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take anticholinergic drugs (medications that block acetylcholine, used for overactive bladder, muscle spasms, or Parkinson's) or cholinergic drugs (medications that boost acetylcholine, used for myasthenia gravis or glaucoma). Both groups carry Moderate-severity interaction risk.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Phosphatidyl Serine Powder might help with age-related memory and cognitive decline, though the evidence is not complete. If you take anticholinergic or cholinergic medications — for conditions like overactive bladder, Parkinson's, myasthenia gravis, or glaucoma — check with your own pharmacist or doctor before starting.
Stomach upset and insomnia are possible, especially at higher doses.
