Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This supplement contains one active ingredient: potassium, a mineral your body needs for nerve and muscle function, including heart rhythm. It's bound to glycine (an amino acid) to make it easier for your body to absorb.
The capsule also holds inactive ingredients—cellulose, hypromellose, purified water, and magnesium stearate—which are fillers and binders that give it its form.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The product facts we hold don't include effectiveness ratings for potassium glycinate, so we can't tell you whether it's proven to work for any specific purpose based on our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Potassium from food is safe, but supplements can cause dangerously high blood levels in some people, especially those with kidney disease or kidney problems. Oral potassium is generally well tolerated, though some people experience nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, belching, or flatulence.
In rare cases, very high potassium levels can cause abnormal heart rhythms, low blood pressure, or confusion. During pregnancy, dietary potassium is appropriate, but use supplements only under medical guidance.
For breastfeeding, dietary potassium is fine, but check with your doctor before taking a potassium supplement.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Double-check any potassium-sparing diuretics (like spironolactone or amiloride), ACE inhibitors (like lisinopril or enalapril), or angiotensin receptor blockers (like losartan or valsartan). All three have Moderate-severity interactions with potassium supplements.
Run your exact medications through the checker on this page before you take this supplement.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you have normal kidney function and your doctor has told you to take potassium, this product may be right for you. Be very careful if you take blood pressure medications like ACE inhibitors, ARBs, or potassium-sparing diuretics—those don't mix well with potassium supplements.
Talk to your pharmacist before starting; we can check your medications and make sure it's safe.

Potassium Glycinate by Bluebonnet Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Potassium Glycinate by Bluebonnet contains a single active ingredient—potassium—that does interact with several blood pressure and heart medications.
The most serious concerns are potassium-sparing diuretics (water pills that preserve potassium), ACE inhibitors, and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs). All three drug types carry Moderate-severity interactions because combining them with a potassium supplement raises your risk of dangerously high blood potassium levels (hyperkalemia).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
These medications all work by changing how your kidneys handle potassium, so adding a supplement on top can push levels too high. This is especially risky if you have kidney disease, since your kidneys are what clear excess potassium from your body.
Altogether, these interactions span 62 individual medications. Before you start this supplement, check your exact medications using the search tool on this page—especially if you take any blood pressure or heart drugs.

For each ingredient in Potassium Glycinate with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Potassium
Ace Inhibitors (Aceis)
Using ACEIs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ACEIs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Arbs)
Using ARBs with high doses of potassium increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
ARBs block the actions of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system and reduce potassium excretion. Concomitant use of these drugs with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia. However, concomitant use of these drugs with moderate dietary potassium intake (about 3775-5200 mg daily) does not increase serum potassium levels.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics
Concomitant use increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
Using potassium-sparing diuretics with potassium supplements increases the risk of hyperkalemia.
