HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Probiotic 40 Billion CFU by NutriRise
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
NutriRise Probiotic 40 Billion CFU provides 6 active ingredients, with the bulk coming from a blend of three bacterial strains: Lactobacillus paracasei, Bifidobacterium lactis, and Lactobacillus plantarum. It also contains Lactobacillus acidophilus, fructooligosaccharides (a type of prebiotic fiber that feeds beneficial bacteria), and a marine polysaccharide complex.
The capsule itself is made from inactive ingredients like cellulose, rice maltodextrin, and L-leucine, which are standard fillers and flow agents.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The evidence for this product's active ingredients is mixed. Lactobacillus acidophilus appears possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome, certain bacterial infections, and antibiotic-associated diarrhea — though the data are still limited.
It's rated possibly ineffective for atopic disease (conditions like eczema and allergies), and we don't have enough evidence yet to rate it for acute respiratory distress syndrome. Fructooligosaccharides — the prebiotic fiber included here — hasn't shown reliable evidence for osteoporosis, constipation, diabetes, traveler's diarrhea, or high cholesterol in the studies we hold.
The three other bacterial strains don't have effectiveness ratings in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Uncommon side effects from the probiotic blend may include stomach discomfort, pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, or burping — usually mild and temporary.
Fructooligosaccharides often causes gas and bloating, especially at higher doses, though studies show that doses under 10 grams daily don't consistently produce more symptoms than placebo. Because this is a live-organism supplement and long-term safety data for these bacterial strains are limited, check with your doctor before use, particularly if you have a weakened immune system or serious underlying illness.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antibiotics, the most important thing to know is that taking them at the same time as this probiotic may lower the supplement's effectiveness — antibiotics can kill the beneficial bacteria before they colonize your gut. Space out your doses if possible, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist about the best timing for your specific antibiotic.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This probiotic may be worth trying if you have irritable bowel syndrome or antibiotic-associated diarrhea and want to see if Lactobacillus acidophilus helps. If you take antibiotics, talk with your pharmacist about spacing out the timing so the medication doesn't reduce the supplement's live bacteria.
Anyone with a compromised immune system should clear it with their doctor first. Start with the full dose to see how your stomach handles the prebiotic fiber — gas and bloating are common at the start.

Antibiotic Drugs
Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
