What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking ProFloracel against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
ProFloracel is a 4-ingredient powder containing two named probiotics — live beneficial bacteria — plus Cellulase (an enzyme we couldn't check) and a proprietary blend of additional cultures. The two main probiotics are Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum, strains chosen to support digestive and immune health.
The inactive ingredients are maltodextrin and plant fiber.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Lactobacillus acidophilus is rated possibly effective for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis. It's rated possibly ineffective for atopic disease, and the evidence isn't established for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).
Bifidobacterium longum has insufficient evidence to rate for the conditions we hold data on, including age-related cognitive decline, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), antibiotic-associated diarrhea, generalized anxiety disorder, asthma, and athletic performance. We don't hold effectiveness data for Cellulase or Total Cultures.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children, though you should check with your doctor before use. Rare gastrointestinal side effects — epigastric discomfort, abdominal pain, gas, bloating, diarrhea, vomiting, and burping — can occur, especially when combined with other probiotics.
One clinical trial reported rare rash and itching in a few participants, but it's unclear whether those were due to the probiotic itself. Bifidobacterium longum is generally well tolerated in healthy people but requires caution if you're seriously ill or immune-compromised; limited safety data exist for breastfeeding.
Rare side effects include abdominal discomfort, gas, constipation, and one report of dry cough. Because both ingredients contain live organisms, there is a theoretical concern of infection in vulnerable patients, particularly those with serious illness or compromised immunity — discuss this with your doctor if you fall into that category.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Separate antibiotic drugs from this product — antibiotics can kill the live organisms and reduce the probiotic's effect. That's a Moderate interaction for both Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacterium longum.
Use the medication checker to see if you're on any of the 182 medications affected.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
ProFloracel may be worth considering if you're dealing with IBS, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, or related digestive concerns and have a healthy immune system. If you're taking antibiotics, space out the doses — ask your pharmacist when to take each one.
Anyone who is seriously ill, immune-compromised, or pregnant should talk with their doctor before starting. Check your medications with the tool on this page.
