What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 1 active ingredient.

This product contains one active ingredient: organic rooibos. Rooibos is a caffeine-free herbal tea made from the leaves and stems of a South African plant.

There are no other inactive ingredients listed.

Couldn't assess
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient Rooibos product and its label doesn't state a use — see Rooibos's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence we hold doesn't establish that rooibos is effective for any specific condition. Studies to date on age-related cognitive decline, hay fever, anxiety, cancer, heart disease, and diabetes all show insufficient reliable evidence.

That doesn't mean rooibos has no value—it means the research isn't in our data yet.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Rooibos tea is generally well tolerated when consumed as a regular beverage. However, concentrated extracts haven't been well studied, so check with your provider before using those forms.

Very large amounts (like 10 cups daily over a long period) might cause liver damage in susceptible people; one case report documented hepatic dysfunction in someone drinking at that extreme volume regularly.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Rooibos.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 880 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before you start drinking this regularly, have your pharmacist check any medications you take that are processed through liver enzymes (CYP3A4, CYP2C19, CYP1A2, CYP2D6, CYP2C9), ACE inhibitors (blood-pressure drugs), or atorvastatin (cholesterol medication). Rooibos may increase how long these drugs stay in your body and how strong they become.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Rooibos is a pleasant caffeine-free tea, but if you take medications broken down by your liver—especially cholesterol drugs, blood-pressure medications, or antidepressants—you should check each one before making it a daily habit. Chat with your pharmacist about your specific medicines first.

OUR ECO COMMITMENTS

Long before we started EcoTeas, we were organic gardeners. For us, organic comes first.

As three best friends working in partnership with small farmers around the world, Fair Trade is just part of who we are.

Nature knows best. We can grow plenty of food without upsetting the balance.

Our love of nature runs deep. Planting native trees is a small gift back to the world.

This box is made from 100% post-consumer recycled paperboard. The “eco-wrappers” that seal each tagless teabag are made from renewable non-GMO wood pulp.

We offset our office electricity usage with green energy from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF).

For every eight ounces of water used to brew our tea, we work with BEF to restore eight ounces of water to the Klamath River Watershed in southern Oregon.

Pure Rooibos Warm Balance by Ecoteas: Common Questions

Does Pure Rooibos Warm Balance by Ecoteas interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Pure Rooibos Warm Balance has a known interaction with 879 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Pure Rooibos Warm Balance contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is rooibos safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
We don't have safety data on file for rooibos in pregnancy or lactation. Because it does interact with liver enzymes, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using it regularly while pregnant or nursing.
Can I drink this every day?
As an occasional beverage in normal amounts, rooibos tea is generally well tolerated. If you're thinking about making it a daily habit, especially if you take medications, check with your pharmacist first. Very high intake over long periods has caused liver problems in rare cases.
Why does rooibos affect so many medications?
Rooibos inhibits several liver enzymes your body uses to break down medications. When those enzymes are slowed down, drugs can build up in your blood and become more powerful—which can trigger side effects.
Does rooibos actually help with anxiety or diabetes?
We don't have enough reliable evidence to say whether it works for those conditions. The research we hold on anxiety, diabetes, and other health issues shows insufficient evidence so far.
What's the difference between rooibos tea and rooibos extract?
This product is a tea bag—a brewed beverage. Concentrated extracts haven't been well studied, so if you're considering an extract form, ask your provider before using it regularly.
