Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

PureBerry is a liquid supplement with one active ingredient: red raspberry extract. The extract is mixed with inactive ingredients including vegetable glycerin, purified water, and stevia leaf extract to make up the final product.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Red Raspberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: supports uterine health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Dysmenorrhea, Labor pain, Menorrhagia, Parturition, uterine tone, menstrual health — and 1 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Red Raspberry is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Labor pain (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Red Raspberry is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Parturition, Dysmenorrhea, Menorrhagia.

The evidence we hold on red raspberry extract's effectiveness is limited. For the conditions listed—aging skin, cardiovascular disease, respiratory tract infections, heart failure, and diabetes—we have insufficient reliable evidence to rate how well it works.

If you're considering PureBerry for one of these purposes, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about what the current research actually shows and whether it's a reasonable choice for you.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Red raspberry extract is generally well tolerated by most adults, but the safety data available is limited. The most common side effects reported are diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, and stomach pain, though these don't typically occur at standard doses.

One unusual case of occupational asthma (wheezing and shortness of breath) was reported when someone inhaled red raspberry powder. Pregnancy and breastfeeding data are less clear.

Red raspberry has been used late in pregnancy, but safety in pregnancy isn't well established—use only under your doctor's guidance. We don't have enough reliable information to confirm safety while breastfeeding, so talk with your healthcare provider if you're nursing or planning to nurse.

Moderate interaction found

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Red Raspberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 135 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking PureBerry, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs) or insulin. Both interactions are Moderate severity—the first raises bleeding risk, and the second might lower your blood sugar too much.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs

Theoretically, taking red raspberry leaf with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding.
In vitro research suggests that red raspberry leaf extract has antiplatelet activity and enhances the in vitro effects of the antiplatelet medication cangrelor. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Insulin

Red raspberry leaf might reduce glucose levels in patients being treated with insulin.
In one case report, a 38-year-old patient with gestational diabetes, whose blood glucose was being controlled with medical nutrition therapy and insulin, developed hypoglycemia after consuming two servings of raspberry leaf tea daily for 3 days beginning at 32 weeks' gestation. The patient required an insulin dose reduction. The hypoglycemia was considered to be probably related to use of red raspberry leaf tea.

PureBerry by Advanced Nutrition by Zahler: Common Questions

Does PureBerry by Advanced Nutrition by Zahler interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, PureBerry has a known interaction with 135 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
PureBerry contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Is red raspberry safe to use while I'm pregnant?
Red raspberry extract has been used late in pregnancy, but we don't have solid safety data yet. The safety information we hold shows it's considered Likely Safe, Possibly Safe, and Likely Unsafe depending on the context—which means there's real uncertainty. Talk with your doctor or midwife before taking it while you're pregnant so you can make the best choice for your situation.
Can I take this while breastfeeding?
We don't have enough reliable information to confirm safety while breastfeeding. That's not a 'no'—it's a gap in the data. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking PureBerry if you're nursing.
What are the most common side effects?
Diarrhea, gastrointestinal upset, and stomach pain are the most common side effects reported with red raspberry, though they don't typically happen at standard doses. One unusual case of occupational asthma (wheezing and shortness of breath) was reported from inhaling the powder, not drinking it.
Does red raspberry extract actually work for diabetes?
The evidence we hold on red raspberry for diabetes is insufficient—we can't rate how well it works. If you're interested in it for blood sugar, talk with your doctor about what the research actually shows and whether it makes sense as part of your plan.
What's actually in this liquid besides the red raspberry extract?
PureBerry contains vegetable glycerin, purified water, and stevia leaf extract as inactive ingredients—these help make up the liquid and provide sweetness. The active part is the red raspberry extract itself.
