This product has one active ingredient: Pycnogenol, a standardized extract from maritime pine bark. The capsule also contains inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose, gelatin, vegetable stearate, and magnesium stearate — which help form and preserve the capsule.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
Pycnogenol is possibly effective for osteoarthritis and chronic venous insufficiency (heaviness, swelling, or pain in the legs from poor circulation). The evidence for its use in asthma is also possibly effective.
For high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), the research suggests it's possibly ineffective, so it's not a solid choice for that goal.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pycnogenol is generally well tolerated in studies, though long-term safety data is limited. The most common side effects are stomach upset, dizziness, and vertigo.
A few rare cases of headache and chest pain have been reported, though it's unclear whether they were directly caused by the supplement. During pregnancy, there isn't enough safety data, so the data advises against using it.
The same goes for breastfeeding — there's insufficient information to know whether it's safe, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it if you're nursing.

The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin and aspirin). Pycnogenol may increase bleeding risk by slowing how your blood clots.
The effect has been seen in lab studies, but we don't yet know how big the real-world risk is.
It may also lower blood sugar more than expected when taken with diabetes medications, raising the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). One clinical study showed this effect, so if you take antidiabetes drugs, close monitoring and possible dose adjustments are important.

Pycnogenol
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, maritime pine bark extract might increase the risk of bleeding when used with antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.
Clinical research suggests that maritime pine bark extract inhibits platelet aggregation. However, the clinical significance of this effect is unclear.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, maritime pine bark extract might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when used with antidiabetes drugs.
One clinical study shows that maritime pine bark extract decreases blood sugar in patients with diabetes being treated with antidiabetes agents. Monitor blood glucose levels closely. Dose adjustments might be necessary.
Immunosuppressants
Theoretically, maritime pine bark extract might decrease the effectiveness of immunosuppressant therapy.
In vitro and animal research suggests that maritime pine bark extract has immunostimulant activity. This effect has not been reported in humans.
