In vitro and animal research suggests that maritime pine bark extract has immunostimulant activity. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the idea behind this pairing. Alemtuzumab (Campath) works by directing your immune system to attack cancerous white blood cells, and in the leukemia setting it also lowers your overall immune activity. Maritime pine bark (Pycnogenol) has shown immune-stimulating activity in lab dishes and animal studies, so the theoretical concern is that revving up the immune system could work against a drug whose job partly depends on a carefully managed immune response.

I want to be honest about how soft this is: this effect has only been seen in test tubes and animals, never reported in people. It is not a proven problem. Still, because alemtuzumab is serious cancer therapy, I would not add any new supplement without first checking with your oncology team or pharmacist.

What Is Alemtuzumab Injection (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) Used For?

Brand name: Campath

Alemtuzumab (brand name Lemtrada) is approved for adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) — including relapsing-remitting MS and active secondary progressive MS. Because it carries serious risks, it is generally reserved for people who have already tried at least two other MS medications without adequate results.

It is not recommended for people with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), a first episode of MS-like symptoms, due to its risk profile.
